Is an Odachi the same thing as an O Katana?

  1. I believe and odachi has a larger handle and a smaller blade then an o katana.


  2. Malcolm hit on it, but there is more to it than that. An Odachi is also a more defensive weapon since it is shorter then a katana it can be used much quicker.

  3. The difference between a Tachi or Odachi and a katana  or O katana is the way it is worn. The blades themselves are the same. The "O" simply means big or great. A katana is called such when it is carried edge up in the obi.

    Edit: Actually no there isn't more to it than that. An O katana is just a big katana and an Odachi is just a big tachi. A tachi is worn edge down suspended from the obi or belt.
