For their parent (in laws) that would cover possible respite care, for skilled nursing facilities etc.

Being in the healthcare field, I want to make sure if needed, that my mother in law doesn't have to rely on state or federal health care facility if she is unable to care for herself.

  1. Sure you can.  It's called long term care coverage.  She'll have to sign the application and release the medical records; you'll have to cough up the premiums.

  2. Yes, many adult children purchase policies for their parents. Many times it's the children that have to care for them.

You'll need a long term care policy. Visit a local agent that works with several major companies in your area. The agent will work with you to find the best plan for them and will explain the way these policies work.

Medicare, Medicare Supplements or Medicare Advantage plans will only pay for skilled nursing facitlites up to a maximum of 100 days, and then not in every case. If they need skilled nursing and there is no hope of getting better they won't even pay for one day.

Medicaid will pay but they'll have to use up all their assets before qualifying and Medicaid will take most of their income as well.

  3. Yes you can.  But if it is for some one who is older, it can be vert expensive.  You might try a medicare supplement.

  4. The answer could vary by person. It is alway a good idea to hear the suggestion from different sides and try to choose the best one. Here is a good one i recommend.http://health-insurance.onlinebestoffer....

  5. Yes you can.  I see the other two answers talk about Medical supplements which would be a great product.  You can also look at Long Term Care.  If you Parent in Laws are not quite old enough to qualify yet.   I would also suggest that you talk to a local agent to find out what all the options are and what the total cost versus benefits or lack of would be.  Good Luck.
