I would rather get used to driving on the left side of the road outside of a big city. Thanks!

  1. No, cars can be rented in many cities and throug hotels. Tourist information offices will also provide you with the information you need.

Believe me you dont want to learn to drive on our side of the road, in the country side.

Remember you cannot turn left on red here.  I know in some states in the USA you can turn right on red, there is no equivelant of that here.

Also jaywalking is not a crime be aware that people in towns and cities may walk out on the road at any time.

Also roundabouts are tricky. Here is a tip.

As you approach the round about you should know which exit you are going to take. If you think of the round about as a clock with you at the six o clock position, then any exit past 12 ie 1 ,2  or 3 o clock you should use the rightmost lane to join the round about. remember to indicate right after you have passed the exit  before the exit you wish to take.

Roundabouts are very common in ireland, take care as they can be tricky. I dont meen to scare you but be prepared.

Also remember all signs and speed limits in europe are in kilometers not miles, your cars spedometer will be in kilometers, miles will be displayed underneath it in small numbers.

My one piece of advice is drive slow, take your time, forget everyone else, your here to enjoy yourself so dont stress out.

I found when i drove in the states that it helped to walk around and get used to the flow of traffic when crossing the street before i drove.

    Enjoy yourself and take care.

  2. Check out enterprise car rental-they have loads of outlets on the outskirts of the city and they're pretty cheap. (no- i don't work for them)

  3. No you can rent a car in several city locations as well as some of the bigger hotels . Just be careful traffic is crazy and signs are few and far between.

  4. idk. but i am going to Ireland this summer and my parents have looked to rent a car somewhere and it is ALOT of $$$MONEY$$$ to rent one.

  5. no.  Many of the major cities have places to hire a car.  If you are looking to learn about driving on the left side of the road, best bet is to hire a car from Shannon.  You start off on a National Road (N18) - equivalent to the US State roads (aka dual carriageways).

BUT - get rest on the plane if you are coming from the States.  The flights land early morning here.

  6. It depends where you're going as to where would be best. I'd suggest Killarney as the scenic driving nearby is fantastic and those roads are so narrow nobody can really move at speed.

There's plenty of off Airport pick-up points for rental cars - try this car rental broker for a few http://www.novacarhire.com/car-hire/Irel...

Shannon Airport wouldn't actually be too bad be a place to start from as you'd have some time to adjust before hitting a city (either Limerick or Galway depending on your itinerary).

The best tip I can give is to relax when on the open road and concentrate more when at junctions with other roads. Don't take chances at intersections take your time - s***w any impatient drivers - better to have them a little cross than end up in a fender bender.

Driving here is not that bad really - thousands of right hand rivers come here ever year and only a small fraction have a poor experience.

  7. hopefully, dont need a bunch of drunks on the road.
