Question:

Is an apology from Nascar enough in this situation or do they owe their fans a little more?

What would you expect from Nascar if you had centered your summer vacation around last Sunday's race thereby spending a couple of thousand dollars in the process. We know that Nascar dropped the ball here, not Goodyear. The track at Indy has not been changed since the last Brickyard 400. Now Nascar is saying that they are willing to allow Goodyear to go to the size tire that is needed for the COT. (Pemberton, Nascar Now)

This has hurt Nascar's reputation and even more fans will think twice about laying out the big bucks to attend a race that might or might not be conducted properly.

If I spent my money to watch that tire test last Sunday I would be expecting at least a refund of my ticket price from Nascar, not the track owners!!

I don't want to hear anymore about the fact that we have done this in the name of DRIVER SAFETY or Cost Containment for the teams! (BULL) I spent my money to watch a race!!!

PEACE

And thanks for letting me vent!

  1. It was a sad situation but that is about all that they can do.........refunding money is certainly not an option. Maybe next year it should be free hot dogs and soda day or something like that...............They should comp the fans in some way next time around...............

  2. An apology, without assurances that this will NEVER EVER happen again, doesn't mean much to me and especially not the people that DID plan their summer vacation around that mess at the Brickyard.  If they do not tweak a few things with the car itself or the restrictions they have on tire size, NASCAR will have not learned anything from Sunday's "race".  I have never been to a cup race and if that were the first one I attended I would probably sue NASCAR for the reimbursement of my expenses for the whole trip.  Not really, but I would sure want to.  After Charlotte in 2005, Vegas last year and Atlanta earlier this year you would think that Goodyear would demand some changes from NASCAR so that they don't end up looking like the bad guy all the time and get the reputation that they are incompetent.  How much do you think Goodyear is suffering in passenger and light truck tire sale losses because of ticked off NASCAR fans?  NASCAR needs to think about what they can do to the car to avert this issue in the future.  If that means widening the right side, to accommodate slightly wider tires, and getting rid of the bump stops and raising the front splitter to allow a little more travel and downforce in the front then NASCAR will have to compromise on their original idea of uniformity of ALL COTs.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  3. No joke. I'd be steaming if I had spent the bucks to watch a race and got a pit road competition instead.

The entire thing was a fiasco but I don't think it was avoidable given the increased weight of the cars and the fact that Goodyear did nothing to prepare and test a tire AT THE SPEEDWAY in advance of the race there. Goodyear knew that the IMS track historically ate tires. I'm not too sure that NASCAR should shoulder the burden alone.

  4. As much as I like to conspire against NASCAR I will just say they made a mistake. It was fun pointing out NASCAR's failure but who doesn't make mistakes?

Best thing they can do is learn from it, improve, and try not to make the same mistake. NASCAR is still learning about the COT. Just because NASCAR designed the COT doesn't mean they have all of the data necessary to avoid every potential problem.

Their apology was good enough for me. It shows they are willing to admit they were wrong even if it was so obvious they couldn't lie their way out of it.

  5. well,i'm pretty sure its not gonna get any better at pocono

  6. sorry but if you didn't want to watch it you didn't have to I don't think NASCAR owes you anything

  7. An apology is surely not enough but It is probably all your going to get.  I think they oughta give free tickets to another event.  That would be the kind thing to do.

  8. I still say every driver should get the same amount of points that the winner got.NASCAR and Goodyear screwed up.

The last time we had this many tire issuses Neil Bonnett was killed at Daytona because of the tires blowing.

  9. The fans better get discounts if it happens again!

And Indy shouldn't be the blame...its Goodyear!

  10. The fans need more than an apology: they need all the money back that they spent to plan out their summer. That was pathetic...I think Goodyear is partially to blame, but Nascar definatly dropped the ball here you are correct. I've never seen a "race" (ha, I can't believe I used that word when describing Sunday!) that bad in all my years as a fan.

  11. They own their fans a fun, free, EXTRA, point free race like the All Star race (but NOT at Indy.)  I think this would be the best way for Nascar to make things up to the fans.

  12. you are right. That was the poorest excuse for a race that I have ever seen. It reminded me of the shootout race at daytona, where they ran so many laps in a heat. what a joke.

  13. Vent all you want.

You would have paid for the longest Pit Crew Competition in the history of NASCAR.

    Refunds, hahaha

    hohohoh

    hehehe

    You so funny..

  14. The apology is not sufficient for this debacle.  Now granted they can't cover everybody's travel expenses, etc.. but they should allow anyone with a ticket stub or proof of purchase either a free ticket or HEAVILY discounted ticket for next year's race.  Or, people should have the option to exchange that stub for an available seat at ANY NASCAR track.  This should be valid for 2 years to allow everyone a reasonable opportunity to use it.

  15. It's over, lets move on already!  It was bad.....so was California, Atlanta, and all the other painfully boring races that have taken place this year.

It's all a product of this new car, wrong tires, and in Indy's case throw in a diamond grinded track, and we all saw the result.  Indy has never been famous for exciting stock car racing in the first place.  It's Pocono time (which is sure to be another snoozefest).
