Question:

Is an eco-friendly yearbook marketable?

I did a mock yearbook where my theme was In-Sync (with the world and each other). In the book, I focus on different events that have changed the world. Now the editors are saying that it's not marketable. They're saying it's too opinionated and people who don't care about the world won't buy a book. How can stating a fact about world events be so controversial?

  1. I think you should go for it. I'd buy it.

  2. If it's a yearbook for a school, which is what most yearbooks are for, then it should be about the school. In the world we're in now, if you were to use recycled materials to produce the books and make the books, i think you'll find that as a marketing tool to use recycled materials. There's nothing like the guilt of consumers today and their impact on the world to get them to buy recycled and "green" products, and especially so for a hardback book like a yearbook. If this is a yearbook of other sorts where you would market it to sell as a book, then you'll need to find a more compelling story that's more marketable. What you've written sounds like everyone's everyday conversations. Who wants to read the conversation they just had?

  3. How can a book be friendly to the environment?

  4. It is very possible that you made the common mistake of the day. You assumed that people want to read your opinions.
