A close friend is the executor of his sisters will. The deceased lived in Maryland. My friend is not listed in his sisters will as being a beneficiary of any of her estate just as the executor.

Will he be entitled to any compensation for administering the will?

Thank you.

  1. Yes he will be

  2. Yes.  See Maryland Code sec. 7-601.

Fee is 9% of the estate if the estate is less than  $20,000.  If it is greater than $20,000, it is $1,800 plus 3.6% of the excess over $20,000.

The executor is also permitted to hire an attorney to help him with the administration of the estate.  See Maryland Code sec 7-602.
