  1. Tough question. One assumes you're here right now. If so, it's a moot point because you won't be able to arrive in a foreign country unless you have a valid passport.

OTOH, if you're currently in a foreign country, you should have enough smarts to keep a valid passport anyway.  Bottom line- even an expired passport will get you into the USA, but not without a lot of hassle. You'll get secondaried (the infamous "back room") to verify your bona fides. Immigration aka CBP has bigger fish to fry than a US Citizen on an expired passport. But you *will* feel a bit of sizzle, hey?

  2. Many country well not let you enter if your passport well expire in less than 6 months

  3. hmmm duh?  its expired as in no longer valid.

    get it renewed.

  4. LoL!

  5. Certainly not! You will not be allowed to exit or enter the US with an expired passport. It is not consider a valid document. Besides the renewal process here in the US is very basic. Renewal Applications can be obtained from most post offices.

  6. No, to each.

  7. Note the wording below; it states that you may be DELAYED in getting (back) across the (land) border... not prevented or denied.  Methinks that if you show an expired passport, the US border people should be able to put 2 + 2 together and figure out that you are a US citizen --albeit one without the PREFERRED document (valid passport) but nonetheless one WITH an official backup document that shows that you have proved your citizenship in the past.

"Effective January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older should no longer expect that they will be able to prove identity and citizenship by relying on an oral declaration alone. Instead, travelers will be asked to present documents from one of the options below when entering the United States at land or sea ports of entry.

    ---------RELEVANT PART:

Travelers who do not present one of the documents listed below may be delayed as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers attempt to verify their identity and citizenship."

  8. You cannot travel abroad on an expired passport; they won;t even let you off the plane.

When you try to get back in the US on an expired passport, a lot depends on how wexpired it is, but it will necessitate a trip to the room in back
