  1. "patching" is generally used my orthoptists in hospitals. its generally used on children although not uncommon to find in adults too. Patching is used when one eye is considerably weaker than the other or when there is a lazy eye. By patching the good eye it makes the weaker eye work harder and it improves vision over usage. Also with a lazy eye it makes the eye work harder so the muscles around it become stronger reducing the "slack" in the eye.

patching is used for about 2-3 hours of strenous work such as whilst playing video games a day to allow the eye to effectively have a work out.

This sort of patching cannot hurt the "good" eye, as the patch is worn in short stints. Wearing a patch after an eye has been injured for a couple of days also wont damage it either, as its only a temporary thing.

However if a patch was worn continuously over a long period of time the other eye muscles may weaken through a lack of usage.

    hope that helps

  2. it might be...i think so.

  3. actually  yes, it can be.  It makes the muscles in the covered eye weak from  non-use.

  4. it won't harm the eye if put on peoperly, but i couldnt reccommend leaving it there for neumorous hours unless it was a costume eye patch and not a medical one.

  5. miss J deserves best answer for this. And thank you for asking this question, i was wondering the same thing since i do patching as well for a couple of hours a day.
