Is an internship in London with an I-bank a good deal?

I have an offer to go to London and work for an investment firm. Does this sound like a good option? I do not want to work in London but I do want the experience. Will experience in an international firm help me out here in the States?

  1. I think it would certainly be a gold star on your resume, although it may not be of practical use at home so it may -or may not- help you land future jobs.

I would go just for the life experience.  Not a whole lot of Americans get to experience living abroad.

  2. If the firm has a top-notch reputation and has international locations (so everybody knows who they are and what they do) then the experience is certainly going to help. If it's just a local bank on the other hand, it may or may not be worth it. While banking and finance laws certainly differ between the US (where I'm assuming you're at) and the UK, the experience you get doing things like M&A for multinational companies is pretty much the same in both places because the work is the same no matter where you yourself are physically located.
