Im just wondering whether to get the bluray version of beowulf or to get the regular DVD, My Ps3 is running HDMI so it upconverts the DVD to 1080i.

  1. The thing about blu ray is that the disc can hold 50 GB of memory. And what does more memory allow? More SPACE; more space to add higher def. of audio and superior quality picture onto the disc. In fact, all blu ray discs are written using a very fine blue laser, hence the name blu ray.

So while upconverted dvds may be displayed in 1080i, there are gaps in pic quality where the ps3 will have to second-guess what colors fill in the pixel gaps. Basically the dvd was not made for a 1080p, HDMI connected ps3. Therefore, it is up to the ps3 to expand the picture to the dimensions and create the correct colored pixels. Sometimes it works and you don't notice it, but other times you may.

It is certainly cheaper to buy dvd and have it upconverted, but there is soo much that you will be missing and quite honestly, isn't that why you bought those cables and high res tv?

if you want cheap blu rays, try going to amazon.com. They are at least $10-$20  cheaper than bestbuy, circuit city, etc.

  2. it does improve it.. but i would say just get the blu ray.... i still am to notice it.. but then again.. its up to you and how much u like the movie..

if its one that u really like then go for the blu

if its one that ur like hm,mm its ok just get the regular...

but in my case i would get the blu.. take advantage that u already have a bly ray

  3. Unconverted dvds are not as good as bluray movies , they are as good as hd dvd but not bluray movies.

  4. it wont make much of a difference with beowulf since its animated, just like 300. So just go with the DVD and save some money.
