Question:

Is antimatter observable?

it seems if it were the opposite of matter, then it would not be observable ... matter = observable , antimatter = not observable

and for that matter would it be better to just refer to the 2 as something and nothing ... "some"thing , "no"thing?

so if something (or matter) was created, then nothing (antimatter) never was created, and there just always was (funny enough the only thing that we could concieve as always existing without ever being created is absolutley nothing)

including empty space (even empty space is something)

a person might think the opposite would be a universe of infinite solid material (possible i believe, but still does not equate to nothing)

so maybe matter is imaginable , and antimatter is non-imaginable

but it's interesting that some people speculate that the 2 converging destroy one another.

i am just a novice, but my main questions, are "is it observable? and how? ... then, "would it be easier to understand if referred to as something and nothing?

  1. I think antimatter is also something not nothing

like +ve & -ve charges there may be +ve & -ve masses or matters. It is non-imaginable though!

  2. Anti matter is just like matter.  The only thing "anti" about it is its opposite charge (and some of the other quantum numbers).

There are various ways you can observe it.  Here are just a few.  If it has charge (not neutral antimatter), it will interact with photons and you can see that.  Via that photon, it will interact with any other charged particles (so it can ionize things).  It will interact with its regular matter counterpart via creation/annhilation interactions.

  3. Definitely yes!

Duplicate the Anderson Experiment on Pair Production. You will be able to record two particles moving in different directions which are an electron and its anti-matter counterpart, the positron.
