  1. no lizards are poisonous.. you can touch and eat anyt of them without fear of poisoning yourself..

there are a small few that are venomous though..

as noted the gila monster and mexican beaded lizard (2 distinct species) are noted venomous species..

and it was recently discovered that the komodo, and possibly other Varanids, do infact contain venom glands and ducts.. making them technically venomous.. in addition to the dozens of varieties of bacteria dwelling in their saliva

  2. gila monsters are quite poisonous and pack a good wallop. The Komodo dragon, however large he may be, is still a lizard and WILL KILL YOU. they aren't so much poisonousin their own right, but their mouths are so covered with bacteria, many of them flesh eating, that when they bite you, get into your bloodstream causing a very painful, agonizing death.

  3. Gila Monster

The only poisonous lizard known to the world is native to the desert southwest of the US and Mexico.  Known as the Gila Monster or Beaded Lizard, these animals spend about 80% of their life underground but become more active at the surface during Spring.

Though Gila Monsters appear slow and lumbering, these creatures can move with surprising speed, and they WILL render a severe, poisonous bite.  They have been known to stay attached to human victims for 15 minutes, and in at least one case, not even pliers could pry the animal loose.

Recently deceased snakes can still have a bite reflex, and to be on the safe side, I would expect the same of this creature.  Additionally, the poisons from these animals can still affect a person long after the lizard has been dead should a finger be snagged on a fang for example.

As with all animals, these creatures are a normal and desired part of the ecosystem.  Seeing one should be considered a real treat and not an opportunity to molest it or kill it.

I found this on a website. can't believe this information.

  4. The second guy is right.  The Gila and the beaded lizard are 2 different species, not the same one.

Their bite is said to be very painful, but seldom fatal as neither has any fangs.  They basically would have to chew on you for a while and drool into your wound!

  5. 2 kinds are poisonous. They both live in sw united states/n mexico.

    They are the Gila monster

They are only dangerous if they bite. But dont get close to them. They are ez to remember, as they are the wartiest, ugliest lizards I have seen. The two lizards look similar, and they are in the same genus, but their species is different:

Heloderma horridum Beaded liz and Heloderma suspectum Gila Monster

  6. Gila monsters in the southwest are.
