  1. And if she goes down in the storm, you won't spend 76 days Adrift.

Good luck and check your lines.

  2. i have lived on board my boat since 1990. the storms are wild, wicked and sometimes a little scary, but it is safer to be on board your boat in a storm than elsewhere----if the boat breaks loose, you are there to save her. you are on a dock, but there is still the possibility of breaking dock lines and losing the boat. i keep mine on a mooring. the ride in  storm is exciting....but there is a lot of beauty in storms, there i a lot of intensity in them as well.

if you have the option of remaining on board, do so.  you will enjoy the experience---it will help you understand some of the world in which you live---there are so many little things to learn about on the water...and most of those things have something to do with survival....tie another line to your dock cleats, get a good dvd for your tv, bring on board something good to cook---helps keep the boat warm, and your senses alert for potential problems.  anything can and will go wrong if unexpected......good luck----you should be ok.....do stay onboard. good books never hurt, either.   i never sleep during a storm....i try to sleep before it hits and nap sometimes during the quieter moments  and cook during the fun parts.......make sure your engine works and you have enough fuel to get to a safe place in case of breakaway.....

  3. what type of boatman are you, i have a 40 ft sports fishing boat i live on it for most of the winter, just remember to let more mooring line out than usual, pack away all loose stuff, get a bottle of brandy and have a good drink,

  4. Luck you or unlucky you? Check your lines and be careful...I wish you the best.

I was on my boat last night to check a few things...had a beer...listened to a cd...it's beside my house and surrounded by 3 ft of snow near the North shore of Lake Ontario!

    I still kinda envy you!

  5. I've lived aboard my yacht for 4 years. Although we're in Greece we still get violent storms, especially in the winter months. Pay no attention to the wind nor the waves as long as you're well secured. They look and sound scary but the boat is much tougher than you are! But if a surge develops (where your boat surges back and forth straining lines and cleats) stay awake if you can and keep an eye on your lines. If you suspect a surge then try and get hold of some old car tyres (tires you you [grin]) and use those as shock-absorbers in your lines. (Tie a warp sround the tyre to the dock and another from the other side of the tyre to your boat). We do that here (where a surge often develops) and it does save lines and cleats.

  6. no  but you take care out there hun x

  7. You have made me nostalgic and just a little sad, remembering the many times my husband and I rode out rough weather on our sailboat.  The last time was in Hurricane Ophelia in 2005.  It is thrilling and exhilarating to ride out a storm, and makes a very good story after.

Keep an eye on your lines all night and make sure you have some spring lines.  I will think about you for sure.  As another poster said, most likely your boat is much tougher than you, so as long as you have good fenders out and spring lines you will be ok.  You take care.

  8. Yeaup... I've been living on my boat in the Yacht Harbor in Antigua for almost 5 years now.... so YES... I'm on my boat tonight... and tomorrow night and the night after... etc.

Sorry... my glass is dry... catch you later.

  9. So how did you weather the storm? Any of the advice help?
