Question:

Is any trine a good trine ?

Normally when we intepret an aspect, specifically a trine aspect , say Mars trine Jupiter, we would say that the individual is bestowed with good energy level , good s*x drive ( or just good , constructive drives ) , high vitality and good sporting and competing ability

However , when a planet of the pair is in a less than favourable sign , will the trine still be considered a good trine ( or is it still as good a trine ), say when Mars is in Capricorn ( which is a very good place for mars to be in ) but Jupiter is in Virgo ( which is detrimental ), then will jupiter in virgo still be able to support Mars in capricorn ?

The same with when both planets in a good aspect are in less than favourable signs , for example when Moon is in capricorn ( detriment) and Venus in Virgo ( fall ) but trine each other, how would you intepret this ?

Thanks in advance

  1. Not always !!!

I was bestowed with sun sag with very close trines to leo moon conjunct mars in leo........3 fiery signs !!

it is all supposed to be a great combination and in some cases it is but not in others.

It certainly give me lots of energy, drive etc......but then my moon can get confused with my sun and the same for mars.

When am up.......I feel really great..........but when am down......another story there.

Same with squares I suppose....they push you to achieve.

Trines can get lazy really too. It is like relaxing in the sun on a hammock (sp??) and not do anything positive.

I think some trines can turn against you actually. You mention Venus........lets say venus is sextile or trine jupiter...that can get you into over self-indulgence.

Saturn , that old evil is sometimes necessary.........:-)

  2. Hi Ryan -

Starting with the moon in Capricorn trine Venus in Virgo:

Both the moon and Venus are in detriment in their respective signs.  The affect would be serious, studious, fastidious, detail-oriented, standoffish, maybe even a little cold, but with the aspect of the trine, it works for the person.  There is no great struggle between the person's emotions and what brings a sense of satisfaction or joy into his life.  So, the trine is good in this respect and especially helps with those important, personal planets both being in detriment.  A square with this same set-up would definitely create some emotional pathology.

Now, a square between both an exalted  moon and Venus would create conflict and motivating challenges for change, but most likely with a positive outcome.  Which would I prefer?  I don't like conflict - I'll take the trine.

In the first example of Mars in Capricorn & Jupiter in Virgo, I do think that the trine & Jupiter in Virgo would be supportive, especially if we are talking about Jupiter in the mix; but I would be inclined to want to look at the placement (houses) of the signs for a better understanding of the meaning.

  3. Hi Ryan!

I think that it all balances out in the end. There are never always good in a chart nor bad. That is what makes you and your chart unique!  In the circumstance that you mentioned I think that it would still be a good trine. Just my opinion though. Looking forward to what others have to say. Great question!
