  1. Dentists are very aware these days of the fear some people have of being treated by them and if you tell them so, will do all they can to help comfort you. No one is saying dental treatments isn't occaisionally uncomfortable but it doesn't seriously hurt either, so there is no need to be unduely frightened of it.

[If it's fear of swallowing your tongue then you really do have nothing to fear, it's a physical impossibility]

PS. for those with the under developed intellect, it's "loser" not "looser". r****d!

  2. I feel your pain!!! : )

(I am mortally afraid of dentists. So much so that when i had to have a filling not long ago i had to be given high doses of Valium and be restrained by 3 members of staff....i am THAT scared.)

I'm afraid to say that my phobia is so extreme that there is little that calms me down when i have to go to the dentist.

I just go and get it over with. If i have to have work done or am there for any length of time, i take my ipod and listen to that. I also wear an eye mask so i can't see what's being done, and sometimes my doctor will prescribe me a sedative to settle me down.

I won't say 'try not to think about it'.....that's bull and doesn't work. Just go, get it all over with, come away and have a nice glass of whisky to calm those nerves! xx

  3. I know I don't like them either. Somebody said to me to try concentrating on keeping your feet moving in opposite directions. The act of concentrating on that will take your mind off what is happening and will in turn calm you down. I haven't been yet so haven't tried it out....so let us know if it works! Best of luck.

  4. i don't know about you but i;am not when i was little i grew up in the hospital i had almost three asthma attachs a day doctor's don;t scare me ether does dentist relax you will be fine but they mite give you a needle needles are my best friend i got a tooth pulled once it was fun i liked the pain

  5. Let your dentist know you are scared, and try to focus on the fact you can't get away from it, you might as well just let it happen. Its going to happen anyway, why fret about it?

  6. I was the second time I went, which was last year, the first time i was too young to remember it. The only thing you can do is breathe, it's not so bad trust me, you watch t.v. while they work on your teeth so you will have a decent distraction, and the pain isn't too bad since they numb your mouth.

    Best of luck to you.

  7. The only thing that frightens me is the bill so I joined the H.S.A. health care scheme and claim half of it back.

  8. Ask the dentist what he would reccomend to settle you down. He won't be offended because he'll know that it's not him you're scared of so much as it is the procedure and fear of the dentist is quite common so he should have good tips. That's all I can say for now because when it comes time for me to see him, I'll be scared too!

  9. Is it that you have had some bad experience of treatment?

  10. I hate the dentist but it has gotten to the point that there is no way anything could be worse than the pain I feel at the moment, so the option is long lingering pain or or short pain that I can deal with.

  11. I feel you!

My dentist prescribes valium (low dosage) for me!

I sorta just 'float' into the dentist office; no panic...no anxiety!

  12. dont listen to that guy calling u a looser many people have diffrent fears....ok wen u go 2 the dentist take ur ipod or cd player and listen 2 some music while ur waiting and wen its time to go in just take somone with u and just think happy thoughts besides the dentist knows wat he is doing

  13. i am it helps me if i close my eyes and put my arm over my head.also i listen to my ipod and that calms me down.
