Question:

Is anybody else sick of the priest/ paedophilia questions?

I understand that it is a contentious issue but I think that it is in extremely bad taste to keep asking questions about it and making jokes about the matter.

Although the catholic church should investigate the issue, I do not think it is right to place blame on all the catholics that post in this forum.

hmmm...I never thought I would sell myself sticking up for religion....

  1. im getting sick of it

  2. I agree.

  3. The clergy, whatever their following, look after their own.How naive of anyone to think, that they care about you!

  4. You're right, and its not like every single Catholic priest is a Paedophile.

I can't begin to imagine the uproar if people made the same links between Islamic Mullah's and Terrorism.

  5. I hear ya. It's ignorance that suggests all priests are pedophiles, or potentiality pedophiles. But it's pure stupidity to make jokes about pedophilia. To mock the idea of children being sexually molested is just sick.

  6. I am sick of the priest paedophilia , not the questions about it

  7. No, I frankly think the paedophile attacks on children by Catholic priests  have  factors for more serious consideration:

Why  did the Catholic Bishops  move priests several times when they were proven paedophiles? ( I would sack them)

Why were bribes paid to stop publicity about these paedophiles?( This is criminal )

Why did Bishops fail to report paedophile attacks to the police? ( This is also criminal , it is an offence to know of a crime and not report it)

I look at the amount of compensation paid out (see below) and I suspect it is the tip of the iceberg, so I am suspicious .

Everything in the Wikipedia article below is confirmed on public record and can be independently verified.Paedophile attacks may have been part of the Catholic Church for centuries and only now is it being brought into the open.

  8. The constant mention of the scandal is just another way that the anti-Catholic bigots think they can show off their hatred of the Church without incurring the reputation of being prejudiced.

Fundamentalists use it as a club to beat us poor heathern, idol-worshipin' hellbound pagan Cathlics into agreeing that they are the only "real" Christians. Some atheists use it as a way to rub our noses into the p**p and prove just how superior they are to us poor deluded moronic Catholic religious types.

I hate to tell them, but no matter what their agenda, the only people they're fooling into thinking that they aren't bigots are themselves.

  9. it's because some on here use the scandals to attack Catholics and the Catholic Church, and they repeat the same old innuendo and posts. Just look at some of the answers on here it's because priests are celibate. Well we have thousands and thousand of good priests who are celibate and did not do this, only a small percentage did this.

  10. Oh grow up.  People who imagine that a "celibate" clergy means anything but a pedophile clergy have a continuing need to have their noses rubbed in it.

  11. People, she is not saying that it should be swept under the carpet or ignored for goodness sakes!

I totally agree. Speaking as a victim of child abuse (although NOT through the Church) I find anyone who can make jokes about it in the first place a very sick and sad puppy.

It needs to be taken bloody seriously, investigated thoroughly and then the perpetrators hung out by their b*****k$ for the crows to peck at.

  12. Well I grew up surrounded by mild Catholicism, which in my belief is the most prominent in the Caribbean Isles, which is were I come from, but i don't belief in god and never got raped. :/

  13. I laugh at many questions on here but paedophilia is a whole different thing. It's not funny and could be seen as an illegal post.

  14. Most of them I find to just be annoying instead of funny, though I have seen a couple that actually are funny.

  15. Sexual abuse by Christian clergy is a problem of huge proportions. The only thing good about this problem is that is that it is exposed and many churches and denominations besides the Catholic Church are acknowledging their problem and discussing and implementing strategies to overcome the problem.

There have been over eight hundred priests removed because of allegations and/or suspicion of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Studies have shown that the statistics are 1.5% to 4% of priests have been involved in some kind of sexual abuse. There have been only two Protestant groups who have done studies that I know of, which are the Southern Baptists and the Church of Christ. Among Baptist clergy the figure is about 14% and among the clergy in the Church of Christ it is higher but has not been released publicly. Most groups are afraid of studies and it appears that around 15% may be average among all Christian groups. One thing that is very clear is that no Christian group is handling this problem very well and most are in denial and involved in various degrees of cover-up. One of the instances I am aware of is the Church of God denomination in Cleveland, Tennessee who had a bishop arrested for child sexual abuse (22 counts, if I recall correctly) and almost immediately, all references of him were removed in their website and the church denied even knowing him. One must also keep in mind that until fairly recently the psychiatric community believed that pedophiles could be treated and cured. Many churches including the Catholic Church treated the clergy and trusted the psychiatrists when they said they were cured and would not abuse again. It is also interesting that in studies among other professions with contact with children, such as teachers, that the statistics are similar. I am encouraged that the Catholic Church has a zero tolerance policy for these abuses and is working to eliminate practicing homosexual priests from active clergy and identifying problem candidates at the seminary level.

I have given this issue a lot of thought since the statistics have started to come out as to why there are great differences in the statistics between Catholic clergy and Protestant clergy. I really do not think the celibacy issue has anything to do with the lower statistics for Catholics. I believe I have a unique insight being a convert to Catholicism and having worked for years in a Catholic seminary among Jesuits. My thoughts are that the difference in statistics is the result of the different views of Catholics and or Protestants towards their clergy. Excuse my hyperbole, which I use here for emphasis, but Protestant clergy are more autonomous and are looked at by their congregations as morally superior, not that they shouldn’t be but many are not, and many are revered as a pope to that congregation. They are placed on a pedestal that few of us, if any, deserve. This makes them vulnerable to temptation which comes from those that perceive the clergy as a power figure and are tempted by this perception. Many Protestant clergy fall to this snare of Satan. The Catholic priest does not have the same situation. Congregations know of the sinfulness of their priest who confesses regularly to their congregations that they sin in thought, word and deed lest there be any doubt of our sinful nature. This has a dual effect, the priest remains humble as a result of his confession and the congregation does not place the priest on a pedestal as happens in Protestant congregations.

  16. Babe the church protect their own anyway,

  17. Yes, i'm sick of it. i agree its an issue...but it IS being addressed by the Church.... What irks me is that some bad Priests have given the Priesthood a bad name. Thats just not fair.

There many many good,  holy, dedicated men who have given their lives for their Faith. Tarring them with the same brush is just not right.

  18. Yep and why don't they question why other people who have been found guilty of such practises for ridicule. Like the internet has gained a reputation for pornographic images of children posted by sick people from around the world.

It has amazed me just how many hits some of these sites have recorded in those few hours before the watchdogs get onto those sites and catch all those offenders who are not of the priesthood has astounded me. Its a sick world Master Jack.

  19. no....unless there a priest or paedophilia ......

  20. I am sick to death with priests messing with children. I was taught to trust these people when I was a child, just like so many other children. It is such a shame when these people who you should be able to trust can do so many terrible things to innocent children.

They should be punished according to the laws of the land they practise, not moved around by their peers and the matter hushed up. That is NOT justice to me. For me to endure the typical phrase used; "God will punish" is a travesty.

What about a new little ditty for them to bleat "Kill em all and let God sort em out" Now that sounds to me like justice, especially for kiddie fiddlers.

  21. Yes, the d**n thing is as old as the eleventh century when priest-celibacy was first introduced. it's been 900 years- i'm totally over it, let the poor well-meaning men get married for christ's-sake

  22. do you honestly think or expect the people who are guilty of this to care or to feel the slightest remorse?

many people don't care or think about how they affect others

many also find it easy to make jokes out of sick and evil things and to promote lies about others

many people like this pope and the previous one have covered for peado priests who should be caught and dealt with by the church

I'd be surprised if the church even cares about the victims when some of the church blames the kids for leading priests on which is another sick thing for the church to be attacked over

  23. You are just adding to the Problem...for 100's of years people like you push the problems away when the talks about the massive problem of child molestation in religion and church's heats up and we could finally get to an answer you all say the same thing. leave religion alone, don't attack the church etc etc. How can we ever get rid of control, and molester's if you simply put up a wall as you do?? Its much better to talk about it than pretend it isn't as big an issue as it really is!!

  24. As a former catholic, I can honestly say that I think its because of the sheer magnitude of the act of a priest committing rape.  To me, it invalidates the entire religion.  No question about it, in my mind.

Catholicism puts such a high moral pedistal below its priests that the thought of them even saying a bad word against any man is almost unthinkable.  To find out that someone capable of such a vicious, haneous, sickening act was allowed to make it through to priesthood tells me:

    1.  It is not very difficult to become a priest

    2.  The catholic "god" either allows priests to rape children, or doesn't exist

    3.  A priest is no more "special" than the rest of us.

And i refuse to hear the arguement of "it's only a few of them".  Even ONE of them invalidates the whole thing.  It is an oxymoron.  If there is a holiness to a priest, he cannot commit rape...if a priest commits rape, he cannot be a holy man.

THAT is why I don't think ANYONE shoudl ever let up on it or ever let it go.  It is an absolute mockery and should be dragged out in the dirt at every chance.

  25. I'm tired of the whining alleged victims--if having someone touch your weiner is all that traumatic you have a more serious problem than pedophile priests.  At fourteen I was praying for someone to show me the ropes!  It took a while longer than that but I certainly made up for lost time.  Meanwhile, what kind of puussey thinks he's damaged goods because of a little perfectly normal experimentation in youth.  Please!!!  No sympathy from this quarter.  Victims:  Get a flippin life and get on with it!

  26. yep i'm very sick of them. the people who ask them think they're better than us Catholics when in fact the questions/jokes they make about it make themselves look immature.
