  1. Rumors persist that the last King of the Anglo-Saxons, Edgar, had a son, but no written records exist indicating that Edgar married.  Of course, his sister, Margaret, married Malcolm III of Scotland, from whom eventually the Stewart (or later Stuart) kings would descend. Accordingly, as far as documented ancestry goes, the House of Windsor, which ultimately descends from Sophia, the Electress of Hanover, has as good of claim to kinship to Edgar the Atheling, as anybody else.  Of course, a host of English, Scottish, Canadian, Australia, and American descendants of Margaret of Scotland can make the same claim.  Indeed, she even shows up on my pedigree chart, according to Ancestry.com.

    Slainte!

  2. Nope.  Good health.

  3. I am. He was my Great great great great great great great great grandfather.

  4. It's my understanding that Edgar had no children, but his sister Margaret married King Malcolm III of Scotland (the Malcolm of Shakespeare's Macbeth) and had a large number of children (six boys and two girls, I believe without getting up to look).  Her three younger sons were all Kings of Scotland, and one of her daughters married Henry I of England.  The present Royal Family is descended from both lines--as are many other people!

Slainte is a Scottish toast meaning "good health."

  5. Slainte means something like 'good health' and was used as a 'toast' when drinking, in Scotland and Ireland..
