it's embarassing to be reading an email at school/work and have some p**n advertisement taking up 1/4 of the screen. How can Yahoo! allow this?

  1. Its so gross and why is it that its always the woman not men like ever heard a guy ask you if you wanna knw whats a joke,, woman rights is a joke and I HATE WHEN THEY SAY THAT AND I AM SO HAPPY THERES WOMAN RIGHTS!

  2. Make sure you're not staying signed in.  I've never seen any ads like that.  The only ads I see are for cars, travel and cell phones.

The reason I say make sure you sign out is because ads are content based ads.  Just like if you get on amazon and search for a book, the ads it then shows you are related to that kind of book or other books of related interest.

If you're seeing those kinds of ads, some of the content in the email may be a key word they would use to display that add.  Or if somebody was browsing Yahoo for "p**n" while you are logged in, it remembers what your account enjoys searching for and you become a target of those types of ads.

Just like NASCAR fans are sent cigarette ads, it's demographic based.

While your browser history can be cleared, Yahoo and Google keep tabs on what your user name has searched for in the past and will show ads related to those search terms.

  3. i kind of agree... i was playing a game on y!games and my mom walked by... >.>

  4. Well it seems to me that the answer to that situation is quite simple!  When at work, DO YOUR WORK!  When at school, DO YOUR SCHOOL WORK!  You just need to stop reading personal e-mails, on your employers time and on school time.  Be responsible!  I personally haven't experienced ANY pornographic advertising of any kind on any of my e-mail programs, with the exception of the e-mails that I get that just go straight to the Junk mail box! I just delete them, without ever opening them! Perhaps you should also try this?

BTW:  I do have my pop-up blocker on at all times.  Perhaps you should too?
