Question:

Is anyone else disappointed about the upcoming GOP convention?

With the hurricane coming, they have scaled it back quite a bit. Even the President isn't coming to endorse his own party. Couldn't they have postponed it, or had it somewhere else? With the huge show that was given at the DNC, this just seems like its going to be a smaller, scaled back let down. For the entire DNC, the news covered just about everything they could, and it seemed like a media circus. Now, the Republicans get their chance to fight back, and it's being upstaged by a hurricane. Anyone else feels jipped out of it?

  1. No, I am not.  I am waiting for the debate against the presidential candidates...that should be very interesting!

  2. Believe me, Bush and Cheney not showing up can only help McCain.

The GOP is trying to redeem itself after the Katrina debacle when they sat on their hands while dead bodies rotted in the streets.

Plus, Obama's acceptance speech was seen by more people than the opening of the Olympics. No way could McCain compete with that.

  3. I promise you that the GOP is thrilled beyond words that Bush and Cheney aren't coming, and that scaling back the convention is a blessing, since they have almost nothing to say, and will look terrible in comparison to the Democratic Convention and Obama's speech.

  4. President Bush actually helps the GOP out by not being there. Thats how unpopular he is

  5. If it were not for the fact that people on the gulf coast will be suffering again " which I noticed you did not mention how GOP of you ". This would be what is referred to a poetic justice. Sorry a disaster ruined you party :(

Do you even read your questions. " anyone else feel Jipped " The one thing i want to know is why you thought they could have had it somewhere else??? They are having it in Minnesota do you think if they moved it to Maine or Tennessee that would have ANYTHING to do with the Hurricane?? As for your family if you do have family there I wish them all the best but looking at your question I think you just threw that in there to make yourself look less like a callus a-hole

  6. well the hurricane is an example of what will hit america if the gop is in office.

  7. Is the hurricane a message from the "Invisible Being in the Sky?"

  8. The GOP should donated 50-75% of the funds set up for the convention to rebuilding the damaged areas. This would be a a bigger PR boost than any convention and it would make democrats look bad for having their convention during Fay.

  9. No.  Conventions are just pep rallies for the folks that are already on board.  The Republicans may not get the hoopla but this election is about clear and definite issues.  Which is the way it should be, if you think about it.

  10. They timed their convention perfectly to avoid having George W Bush present but pretending that they wanted him.

  11. No. I'm glad it's being scaled back.

  12. The problem isn't location of the Convention (its well outside the danger area in Minnesota), but that they did not want to look like they were partying while people's homes were being destroyed and possibly lives lost.

They probably could have postponed it.  But I don't think they want to do so.

This is just the excuse they need to keep Bush out of things.  Whether you like him as a President or not, the honest fact is most of America does not.  He is an asset in some areas, mostly hardcore Republican fundraisers; but overall McCain neither wants nor needs Bush or Cheney anywhere near him.  But if he outright says so, it will provide Obama and Biden plenty of opportunities to attack McCain.  They'll constantly be asking why McCain would disassociate himself with Bush now, when he should have done so before the "90% siding with Bush" thing.

Which is why I suspect they chose not to delay it; the hurricane provides help in some unexpected ways, and advantages they may not be able to get again.

I am rather disappointed myself.  Politics is very interesting to me, especially this election.  Analyzing this and that is fun for me.  Now I am getting less of an opportunity to analyze McCain and his campaign the same way as I already get to with Obama and his campaign.  But McCain is making the right decision.

And I think if he goes with his plan of using the Convention to raise money to help out New Orleans after this hurricane, it will go far to help him in both proving Republicans can handle the aftermath of a natural disaster and in proving he is not the next George W. Bush.

  13. Yeah, it stinks. The hurricane doesn't affect most people in the country. New Orleans is under sea level. After Katrina people should not have gone back and the government should not have rebuilt. It's ridiculous that we're dealing with it all over again. I sure don't want my tax dollars going to help with the clean up again.

  14. Yeah,I was looking forward to it but what can you do.You know what though, they will come out being the winners anyway.Gotta have faith!

  15. Well, considering the Republicans that prayed for rain since Obama's speech was outdoors, I guess god is giving them a storm like they asked for.

  16. The speeches aren't going to be uplifting or informative. The Republicans can only sell fear.

    Fear of g**s

    Fear of Muslims

    Fear of immigrants

    Fear of progress

    Fear of g*y Muslim immigrants

    etc.
