Question:

Is anyone else disturbed by the rate at which wooded areas are being destroyed for development purposes?

It's been happening at an alarming rate in the area I live in. Even the small city I live in. We used to have woods all around us and now they are disappearing because of all the housing and some business developments. I realize that much of this land is private owned and it's up to the owner(s) as to what they want to use it for and/or sell it to, but once these natural land areas are gone, it seems they're gone for good. Then, the people who move out to get away from it all start complaining about the deer munching on their lawn and ornamentals. The area ends up being just like where they moved from, anyway.

The natural beauty is gone. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cares about this or even thinks about it.

Why can't local and state governments buy up some land and turn it into nature areas and preserves for wildlife and also for people to enjoy?

If I ever win the lottery, I will buy up some land for this purpose.

  1. you are not the only one who cares. i do too, and it's nice knowing that i'm not alone. the thing is that everything is around money. why didn't the UN stop the genocide in sudan, because china objected what ever plan UN came with to stop the genocide. why you ask? it's simple, when you commit genocide, you r gonna need weapons. and where did the genocide commiters get their weapon? from china of course, and what does china get in return? oil. china is one of the world's biggest oil cosuming country. and that's why. so like i said everything is around money. if the government buys private lands and let trees grow. they are not gonna generate revenue from that. but if they allow corporations to develop "undeveloped" areas, then the government can ask for tax, permit fees for whatever the corporation is doing and whatever reason the government can think of to generate tax. that's why. but one thing great about this country is that the power rests in the hands of the people. the people just need to know how to use that power. but sadly, most people doesn't know how to use that power. and government knows that, and i can say they are abusing their power right now based on the ignorance of the people. and if you every win the lottery, buy them lands and perserve them, we can really use a little more forest on the earth right now. and best of luck to you.

  2. Sweety, I understand what u feel like. Its almost the same with me at my place, except that when I talk to my parents or near&dear ones abt this, they seem to be quite considerate abt this but actually no one is being practical enough in this regard. But the intiative has to be taken by Us ourselves. I've also tried my best and now I've got some saplings of diffrent trees which I'm gonna plant in  a day or 2 near a plot of land where we've started r new house. U too dont lose heart and keep on trying to encourage those around u or ur frnds to help u in decreasing cutting of trees or planting more trees. (Try to encourage them to plant those trees which give them economic benefit such as fruit treese etc)I'm sure if u r consistent enough, soon one day they r going to realize the need and listen to u, as such people as us rn't scarce nowadays.Hope I helped!

  3. This is why people who claim that overpopulation isn't a problem p**s me off. I live in Ohio, and here it's farmland that's being turned into housing developments and shopping centers. Miles and miles and miles of farmland, now gone. I ask people, "If they keep taking our farmland for housing developments, where are they going to grow our food?" And they always say the same assinine thing: "Out west." That doesn't even make sense.

  4. YES!!! I feel the same way you do--if only I has the money to but someof the rainforest...Can't we recycle our pants, dye em' and make paper? Why does it have to be wood?!?! Make houses out of plastic or something, it's probably only wood because that's what they did in the olden days. There are still billions, maybe even trillions  of un-discovered things in the forests of today, and most of them will proobably remain unknown due to the rate of the forests being cut down. Actually, at the local zoo, we have an on-going graph the shows how many people are in the world at this very second (goes up quite fast) and how many acres of forest have been cut down It's scary how many it's been...

  5. No not really its just trees you can make new ones lol. Who cares houses and nice new developments look nicer anyway. Lol sorry but you can be disturbed but it's not going to change we are humans...

  6. pretty scary.

govt. can't buy land and stuff because it's too costly.  that's why they designate areas as monuments and historic parks.

  7. I am disturbed but not surprise. The human race is quickly destroying everything.

  8. if any one is not they should be

in the last 300 year half of the planets forests have gone

and in the last 50 years

half of our wet lands ,rain forests and ice fields .and 3000 species of animals Global warming is a component in a group of destructive forces at work such as deforestation, desertification and pollution.

which we are responsible for ,

We are now witnessing a mass Extinction of animals and plants of Biblical proportions, equal since the disappearance of the dinosaurs

    .

There is a series that you can download easy ,called

    bbc,Planet earth by David Attenborough.

    About 15 ---700mb videos

this is a photographic team that has been filming Nature stories all over the world ,for a very long time .

In 3 of the episodes called --the future--saving species(this one covers extinction and the importance of species)

the future--living together ,ice worlds ,

they compare films they made before of places and species to what they are filming now in the same places.

Many scientists give commentaries as well .

Whole migrations of animals involving millions have disappeared in only 20 years,

in one place in the tundras ,in just 5 years

If we want to save ourselves as a specie ,we have to address

    the problems

Apparently we can correct most of the destructive factors

with disciplines ,changes of attitude and habits.

All species are in Danger eventually,

and each is important because all of Life on this planet is interrelated even if it is not obvious

Imagine that the Eco system is a wall and each specie is represented by a brick

Every brick taken out weakens the wall ,and eventually it will collapse ,which brick is the most important ???

they are all important and we are one of the bricks

  9. Iam concerned too its bad development and over population. You are probably seeing a milder version of what we see here in Indian metros. Not only is the growth rampant and unplanned but the damage is at a much bigger factor.

It hurts when you see lush green forests and farm land converted into ugly "modern" high rise buildings with match box homes.

Its just that there is sooo much greed and demand and there are too many people around and way too much money.

Unfortunately we have a under equipped and corruption prone local government which doesnt even enforce whatever little laws for trees existing.

At least you have lawns we see is horribly dug up roads and badly done tar and dust work, its horrendous.

    You are way too lucky.

  10. I had a post like this recently and I agree 100%. In some regions of this country, there are strict clearing laws, but most places no. I think we need a modern Johnny Appleseed to roam the country and just plant trees everywhere to make up for all the lost trees.
