I was diagnosed with Type I (juvenile) diabetes when I was a toddler.....this type of diabetes is insulin dependent and does not go away from changes in diet, aging, etc. It is NOT the same as Type II diabetes which occurs from poor diet, being overweight, aging, etc. Is anyone else here a vegetarian or vegan and diabetic? Have you noticed that it helps you? I have much better control of my blood sugar now than I did before.....

  1. You're not entirely correct about type II, it's not just a consequence of poor habits, it's genetic as well, but can be aggravated by it.

not vegan, but markedly more vegetarian based on recommendations by my doctor for no real good reason. And i've seen little to no improvement in control; mostly because i figure meat is not real source of carbohydrate anyway and is not really an issue.

But eating more veggies certainly can't hurt my general health.

If i have to give up sugar then i better be able to keep my meat.
