Is anyone else nervous for Big Brown?

No, I'm not a PETA fanatic, so don't jump me.

My initial reaction to all these injuries and deaths, though, is worry. It certainly seems like there's a lot of bad luck on the race track this year. What do you guys think?

I am cheering for him to be TC, though.

  1. I think he will be OK. But it's always a possibility.

  2. There are of course things that could happen, and it would be awful...

But I am feeling good about this!  No sick feeling in my stomach...

What I do have is excited butterflies with all kinds of anticipation!!!

I am very sad though, as I think he is a simply magnificent horse but some people are saying this is such a bad field he doesn't deserve it.  I happen to think he is just so much better than the field that it just appears that way!

  3. Lisa,

Whenever a horse steps out of his stall, he is at risk of tripping.  There have been many injuries and some dreadful fatal ones, not only this year, but throughout racing history.

There is a big push in the industry to make racing safer. With poly track becoming more popular, it is hopeful that fewer accidents will occur. Trainers are also being more careful about their horses as well.

I cannot agree with you more about Big Brown, today. I will be glued to my TV sending prayers for a win, but most of all for all the horses, racing today, and their jockeys to arrive at the finishing line and beyond, safe and sound.

  4. Not at all, he has the best blacksmith in the business working on his hoof.  He will be alright, and he will be sitting in the winner's circle shortly after the race, without any flowers on of course.
