Question:

Is anyone else really sick of obsession over the "TWILIGHT" series?

My cousin [who is the same age as I am] is obsessed with these books and she gave me all of them to borrow. I read the first two. I didn't like them. Why is everyone so obsessed with this book. I'm guessing that [most] of the people who are in love with these books haven't read many other books. For all of the people who like the Twilight series, why don't you try reading a real piece of literature (To Kill a Mockingbird, A Time to Kill, Pride and Prejudice, Cat's Cradle) instead of this, because the books are not as great as they are made out to be.

ps- I have been told that I am too immature to understand the books. I highly doubt that. I'm a senior in high school and I simply enjoy reading GOOD books. I'm sorry, but it's just my opinion.

  1. haha what are you talking about, twilight is a really good series.

  2. I'm sick of it. I read all four, JUST so that I had the rights to say that I didn't enjoy any of them. I'm a year older than you, and I realize that only 9 year olds are too immature to understand them. Trust me, they're as poorly written as you think.

It kind of reminds me of the hype adults made over the Da Vinci Code. I'm not saying that's a bad book, but it's the book that everyone reads. The book that people say is the greatest book ever just because they don't read that much and don't really have anything to compare it to. I just wish people who read Twilight would consider reading ACTUAL good books so they would stop fussing over them.

  3. I can understand your point about Twilight.  I read them and I actually enjoyed the vampire part of the story, more than the romance.  I give credit to the creativity and uniqueness of the story and her idea of vampires.  For young people, especially girls, to fantasize about someone like Edward, who finds Bella as the ultimate girl to be with even though she isn't perfect, gives hope to the average teen girl.

This same romance can be found in Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, although it takes time for Darcy and then Elizabeth to realize it.  Pride and Prejudice has the same ultimate love story, but I find that young adults just don't read the classics as much.  It takes time and a lot of patience to read the old English writing.  Twilight is easier to read.

Who knows, that's what makes this world great... a difference of opinion!  I'm sure your not too immature to understand it, especially if you're reading the true classics.

I just think we should let everyone enjoy what they want and just be happy they're reading! Maybe it'll lead, in the future, to more reading of the classics.

  4. The obsessions are a tad annoying, especially here on Y!A but the hype is the only reason I borrowed the book, I normally wouldn't take an interest in a vampire book, I'll have to see whether I like it or not when I start reading the book.

  5. I comepletely agree with you. Like I read the first 2 and im reading the third one, and well, THEY SUCK. My sisters told me its crazy, they mentioned vampires and werewolves, so i got excited, but then bluhhhh just boring c**p about being chased around and loving some r****d who drinks mountain lions.

Twilight = Cheap rip-off of Harry Potter

Harry Potter = Nothing Compared to The Lord Of The Rings.

Harry Potter, when I first read it, was pretty cool, all the books were good, Rowling wrote a great ending to the series. Twilight, is just boring. I mean sure they feature vampires and werewolves but they just suck. Like there should be so many werewolves killing vampires and there should be h**l breaking loose, but its not. Twilight just doesn't work.

  6. I enjoyed them thoroughly. They may not be packed to the brim with action but reading it puts you in the characters head in this creative universe. And like if you were really in her head, you'd have to endure her boring days. I think it is unique and some people don't give it enough credit. I read all different sorts of things and it'll never be considered my all time favorite but it is pretty high up there.

  7. I agree. I'm SICK, ******* TIRED of it.

I read the first book, was annoying, boring, plain, no character development, NO PLOT, just Mary Sue and Gary Stu in love with purple prose, but okay, okay... It's fine that other people enjoy the book, I enjoyed Jumper movie and it SUCKED... but then the hype came... ALL THE ******* GIRLS SQUEALING CUZ EDWARD IS PERFECT AND "OMG!!1SOHAWT!!1"... and... "IT'STHEBESTBOOKEVAR!1"... I can't stand that. I CAN'T! and if you don't agree with them it's because "you don't understad TRUELUV!!1"... It just pisses me off, and you know what is the worst part in all that?, I'm a 16 year old, I'm the main audience of the ******* book, so if I say I didn't like it I'M WRONG. Pff... Bullshit.

The good thing is that Breaking Dawn was epic Fail and Midnight Sun is in HOLD indefinitely.

  8. Your question doesnt complement your reasons. You've only read the first 2 books - in the series there's 4. Read all the books to have a full understanding of the Twilight "series"

I wouldn't call you immature, it's just that different people have different preferences... You didnt enjoy the Twilight books but liked To Kill a Mockingbird and someone else might love the Twilight books but cant stand To Kill a Mockingbird.

And yes, you are entitled to your own opinion, but to answer your question, there may be others out there that are sick of the obsession but I for one are not one of them.

  9. First off I think the way your going about this is all wrong.  I am a sophomore in high school and I share a love of books all books.  The only book i haven't read on your 'real literature' list is cat's cradle and they were all good books.  maybe if you opened your mind a little ms. senior then you could learn to appreciate literature for what it is.  all types.  i happen to be a huge fan of Stephenie Meyer and am on my  way to acquiring all of the books in the twilight series, i apologize if everyone around you is too exciting that an enjoyable piece of literature has been made available to the world and they happen to be ecstatic about it and you just can't seem to handle it.

  10. Oh you poor thing. Hide from the obsessive fangirls. Quick! I know exactly what you're talking about but I am at a loss at what to do. Believe me, you will not change minds here. Only Meyer can do that - with another disastrous book. And, I didn't insult anyone on this forum, so there. My opinion. Free speech still exists, right?

  11. I'm tired of hearing about them. I had wanted to read them a while back but the endless questions about them are really annoying. Were the Harry Potter fanatics even this bad??

  12. Thank you!

I completely agree. I've read a few of the books out of peer pressure, but I finally had enough with book three. The spelling errors, lack of characters, and rigidity of the writer overall just bored me to tears...

On a lighter note, Dostoevsky is the best. I'm so glad I had a GOOD bunch of books to delve into after a bunch of crappy ones.

  13. Haha too immature to understand the poorly written series?  It is written for a younger audience, people are just obsessed with Edward.

  14. THANK YOU!

Um, no, there is no way you're too immature - I am 24 and I read the books and understood them perfectly, and I agree with you. Well, kind of. I liked them, but I do not understand the level obsession.

For a young adult sci-fi-ish romance novel, it's good. But to try to take it as more than that, is not logical. There are many better books, and better writers, I wholeheartedly agree.

  15. its not that your immature you probably aren't interested in a genre like that. i like action books so whenever i try to read a book about romance its hard to concentrate because I'm not interested in it.my sister likes that series but she is into that kind of stuff.
