Those lefties still love their cars, and they're not willing to give them up - even though THEY think the planet is in imminent danger? Please explain that one to me.

  1. I know, the nerve!  Why don't they just torture a baby polar bear to death and eat it for dinner?

Hey SAM^^, you don't have to use quotation marks for extremely common phrases, "know what I mean?"

  2. Our current infrastructure requires cars occasionally and sometimes can't be avoided.  Most environmentalists don't preach that everyone should stop driving cars all together but try and lower the amount of energy we use during our daily lives.  Only the extreme crazy environmentalists preach that and usually they actually do practice it.

What most environmentalists ask are things such as try driving less, turn off your lights when you can, replace your appliances with energy efficient ones, try and use clean energy if possible, etc.  These are things that are being asked of the general public.  Nobody is asking people in the US to stop driving cars right now or for everyone to become a vegetarian.

  3. Yup. And hybrids (the batteries contained within) are actually no better than just a plain old gas car. But I guess whatever floats their boat so to speak.

Dana: did you read the sites? or just the links? because the first one says that toxicity is a concern. and the second link was mostly for the pollution of the factories... i just forgot to add that part in... nice reading yourself.

Oh and if I could walk to work I would... but seeing that it's seven miles from where I live I don't think so. And I would get a moped to drive to work but my fiance is over-protective of me in that regard and is afraid that drivers won't see me and run me over (which is viable since motorcyclists ARE hard to see sometimes). and the city I work for and live in does not have a mass transit system otherwise I would take that.

I did it for four years while in school.

  4. Yes!  Isn't it funny how the most vocal about the cause are those who are the biggest hypocrites?  And even those that do supposedly practice what they preach still enjoy pointing the finger scolding and accusing anyone who doesn't follow suit as a bad person.  They continuously pat themselves on the back for being so conscious and enlightened.  Personally, I wouldn't call those people conscious or enlighted, I'd call them smug jackasses.  Dana's a perfect example, just look at his profile and his answers, smug and condescending.

  5. How about the ones who do practice what they preach?  Like me - when I drive, it's in a Prius, and I either bike or ride an electric moped to work.

Ah but it's much easier to only look at the people who aren't practicing what they preach, because that way you can shirk taking personal responsibility without having to feel guilty.  Nice strategy.

Katie - you claim hybrids and their batteries are no better, then provide links to websites proving otherwise.  Way to undermine your own false claims!  Saves me the work.

  6. To heck with driving cars, they like their private planes better. It allows them to get to the clean air not soiled by us pions.

  7. Yeah! Especially the celebs who preach to everyone like they are high and mighty above us all, yet fly back and forth everywhere in planes, helicopters and gas guzzling limos.

  8. To err is human...

and it's pretty hard to do all the right things while watching others around you not even try to do one thing to help.

No, I'm not tired of it at all, I'm just grateful that they're doing something while others do sweet FA AND complain about it!

  9. Geirge Carlin has a BRILLIANT bit about self important eco-freaks,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eScDfYzME...

and yes it is rather absurd,

also google Bjorn Lumbeck, this guy along woth some of the smartest pepole on the planet, have come up with a sensible way, and a cost effective way to get the u.s. rolling on energy conservation, an idea so good that it wouldn't bankrupt china and india, or the u.s.a. for that matter

  10. They should ride a bicycle or a car that runs on electricity. If not they will end up paying $8.00 per gallon around 2012. Everyone! Lets get a Hybrid!

  11. I can explain my own perspective.  First, you need to separate the science of AGW from the politics of mitigation.  The science is clear on AGW and I believe in it.  What to do about it is much trickier.  I actually think that we will run out of cheap fossil fuels before we completely s***w up the climate (it's already happening with oil) so in that sense my driving an SUV is not putting the planet in imminent danger.  Also, I don't believe that it's worthwhile to junk an old car in order to cut carbon emissions, when you could keep driving it for many more years. There are a lot of emissions connected with the manufacturing process, so if I drive my car for another 120,000 miles (I have 185k now) I'll be postponing the expenditure of all those manufacturing related emissions.  Also, being a mine owner, I need a car that has four-wheel drive and can go on dirt roads.  A Prius just wouldn't make it to my mine.  However, when I purchased this car I was looking for one that got better gas mileage than my previous (it does) and when I get another I'm sure I'll be able to find one that's even better.

  12. its pretty hard to just up and quit all at once. it'll be gradual before you see a change, i am sure.

  13. Hypocrites.

Libbies and enviros usually drive Subarus, Suzukis, and Land Rovers.

  14. the first word that comes up to mind is: MORALITY

I personally believe in what I call "walk the talk", in other words, being a walking living example of my own believes,

Others believe in what I call "do what I say and not what I do" and usually means they don't really believe in what they say, but they say it anyway because there is some kind of personal gain in it....

FYI: I just quoted the phrases "walk the talk" and "do what I say and not what I do" because I believe in them but they are not mine, of course.....

    Cheers

HEY LAURA B, THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK

  15. I am tired of the people who buy into the junk science that is global warming and how the media won't listen to the 30,000 scientists who have come out against manmade warming

  16. You are misinformed.

The recognition that global warming is real, in no way means everyone has to give up their automobiles.   Nor does it mean we have to live in caves and eat dirt.  You can't discount all the climate scientists who recognize global warming, by accusing them of some extreme form of environmentalism. That's simply nonsense.

We need to switch from a fossil fuel energy source (over the next few decades) to a non-fossil fuel energy source.  That does NOT mean we have to quit using energy.

  17. I am tired of them.  When I ask locals just exactly what have they done to help the planet, all they say is that they changed to those funny looking light bulbs.

  18. To answer your question. No, not as long as they try their best. Why do you bother?

Jesus wanted us to share everything with the poor. So, the people who believes in Jesus and don't give away all their assets don't practice what they preach either, right? Are you as upset with them as with "global warming activists"?

We are only humans. Looking at other people's behaviors without changing your own will never justify your own short comings. Every one has to do what he/she can to contribute. Also, as far as I know there's very few who preaches we have to give up everything.

  19. I know! People say that you should ride your bike, and then they go around driving their SUVs! Hypocrites...

    *Down with Big Brother*

  20. they probably have hybrids.lol
