Is anyone familiar with the area around USC campus I will be staying at the O hotel about 3 miles away

to attend a USC football game I want to walk to the coliseum but was told that it would not be safe? Gang violence? Wont there be a lot of people around and security? Probabely would not be able to get a cab during a busy football game weekend?
