I was at guitar center yesterday, and played the Dean, Breadlove, and Martin DX1 (all under the $500 price point). They all have very nice sound, and the Dean really suprised me for the price. How is the quality of the Dean Performer? Does it compare to Martin or Breadlove?

  1. Dean is generally a good brand but compared to Martin. Martin's more known and has a better quality. I suggest buying a  guitar with the better quality because if you're gonna play the guitar for a long time a better quality would save you money and would make you sound better.

  2. I found an online review for it at Guitar Player online:

  3. When buying an acoustic guitar you should really look for a solid top guitar which will actually improve its tone as it ages as opposed to a composite top which lacks the tonal depth of a solid top.

The Martin DX 1 has a solid spruce top and is also made from a legendary acoustic company. I don't know what model Breedlove you played however I believe they also have solid tops and are an excellent company as well. The Dean has a composite top but it is also an Acoustic-Electric. The other two are acoustic only if they are under 500.

The Dean is gonna be your cheaper guitar but comes with electronics while the Martin and Breedlove are only acoustic but much better sounding guitars.

Having said all that, every guitar sounds different so play them all for a long time and pick the one that you think sounds and handles the best for you.
