  1. I visited Guayaquil in the summer of 2007, and I must say that while the whole city isn't that breathtaking (the new additions aside--e.g. Malecon Del Salado, Malecon 2000, Parque Historico, Zona Rosa, Las Peñas, etc.), the people are great, and you will have a great time. If you speak Spanish, it helps even more, but if not, people are nevertheless sympathetic. The weather in Guayaquil is always very muggy, yet if you want to get away from it....going to Quito is a very memorable experience on its own, and the premium buses only charge about $10 each way from Guayaquil. I hope you enjoy Ecuador!

  2. I'm from Guayaquil and I asure you that you are going to have a great time. I have met many people from the U.S. and they all have had a great time here.

  3. My parents are from Ecuador and every time I go over there I have a great time. I always stay in Quito, since my family lives there, which I love! I've been to Guayaquil once and that was years ago....the weather was horrible. I hate hot, humid places and I don't think I would want to visit Guayaquil again. I have heard that there have been a few inprovements within the city. I'm sure you will have a good time though. Ecuadorian people are warm and friendly and you will want to go there again. When you go, don't forget to stop in Quito!
