  1. Cozumel has a lot to offer and it is very tourist friendly.  You can book your own excursions with private companies that with the cruise lines.  You can also just jump into a cab and hit the beach if you want.  Progresso is a bit more problematic as it is not really a tourist destination.  You may want to book a tour of Mayan ruins.  You can book eithor via the cruise line or with a private company. Also, don't get caught up in all the cruise line hype, for example, they will make you think that they are having the best sales in the world...every day.  Also, you won't possible be able to do every activity on the ship.  Remember, you are on vacation to relax, so relax instead of trying to hit every event.  The shows they offer are hit and miss.  Sometimes they have great comedians, sometimes not. To get good seats to a show, arrive about 20 minutes early.  The Marriage Game is usually a good show to see though. As far as food,  they have a pretty good room service menu.  The dining room is usually good although it takes about 90 min to get through the meal.  If you don't like your table mates, see the maitre'd.  No reason to be stuck at a table for a week with people you don't like.  You may also want to scope out your dining room time / location early on the first day and get it changed if you don't like it.  Check out cruisecritic.com  YOu will see plenty of reviews from the Fantasy as well as the ports.  Keep in mind the Fantasy is considered an older and smaller cruise ship. (older and smaller or realitive terms).  The room size, dining quality, service, show quality will be the same quality on the Fantasy as it will be the newer ships.  The only differences between the newer ships and the Fantasy is that the Fantasy is a bit smaller and has a bit of wear and tear.

  2. Couzmel is lots of fun. There is tons of stuff to do there and there is awesome shopping. Its a very popular spot for jewerly. Look in to your shore excursions from the carnival website. My favorite store is Los Cinco Soles. They have a ton of awesome Mexican things. And they sell the best organic vanilla I've used. Don't worry it doesn't contain the dangerours chemicals that mexican vanilla has been know to have in it.

check out the shows, explore the ship, eat a ton, relax, and enjoy your self being pampared. I loooove crusing and there is nothing like it.

besure to lay on deck chair and look up at the stars in the middle of the night...it is so beautiful. you'll love it.

the link below is a huge web fourm for all things crusing. you'll even find your ship and so much stuff about it. its a neat website. check it out. you might even find some people who will be on the ship with you that week!

    have a great time.

  3. DON"T MISS ANY CRUISE EVENT, they are amazinly fun!!

also for your port excursions on your own, you can see them at your own pace and its cheaper

  4. If you go to CruiseCritic.com and click on "Boards" you can find lots of tips.  There is also a "Roll Call" board where you can "meet" other passengers on your sailing.  [For the roll call board you need to "join" CC, but it's free.]

Biggest tips I didn't know for my first cruise:  don't use the cruiseline transfers to/from the airport and port; fly down the day before your cruise [can't do this with cruiseline air]; try to do excursions on your own [depending on the port - Cozumel is an easy one - don't know about Progresso].

BTW - watch the exotic drinks - they add up fast!
