  1. I think its saying something like the more power you have, the easier it is for you to use it in the wrong way. Or something like that. I see how you think you could realte it to child abuse, but when you really think about it, I dont think you can.

  2. Edmund Burke was a philosopher who wrote at the time of the American and French revolutions. He opposed the excessive power of the British monarchy, and hence supported the American colonies, but he also opposed the unrestrained power of those who claimed to speak for the masses after the French revolution. He is seen as a founder of modern conservative philosophy, which supports democracy but does not support such things as the radical redistribution of wealth or the abolition of hierarchy,  processes which it sees as leading to another form of tyranny. The quote is about the need to avoid unbridled power, whatever its source. The quote is not directly related to child abuse, an idea which didn't really exist in the 18th century, although quite a few of the people who wrote at this period about the need to strike a balance between order and liberty applied their ideas to the raising of children.

  3. The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse.”

    ---Edmund Burke

Very easy. It means, basically, that the more power you have, the more capable you are of using it for YOUR benefit, or worse, for the non-benefit for others. Like in the movie Spiderman, the quote is:

With great power, comes great responsibility.

    -Spiderman

It means the more power you have, you need to use it wisely, and not to hurt others. The quote also means that when someone gains power, sometimes the person will become greedy. This relates to child abuse because, some parents cannot control the power they have over their children. Some of them take advantage of it and end up hurting their child.
