We now have to listen to uneducated horse racing haters and PETA loving weirdos because of an unfortunate sports accident?

Eight Belles was a tragedy, and tragedies happen in all sports.

  1. what has irked me is that all that all people who normally do not give a rats behind on horse racing is in here, saying stuff such as the derby should be banned.

I for one wish we could ban them from this question thread.

It was a tragic loss, but now it is on to the Preakness. .

Though we will never forget the courage of Barbaro and eight Belles.

  2. Because people for the ethical treatment of animals should be stopped? Well that shows how you feel about animal cruelty. If you even owned a horse you would recognize that they are sentient beings and should not be treated unethically. Open your eyes and see who is uneducated.

    Meggy-

Anyone who has owned a horse knows they live to be ridden. They light up when they see you coming and love the pleasure of  the run. It only becomes cruelty when you betray that trust and ride a horse thats too young and delicate to its death. Or sell it to slaughter when it no longer runs to your standards. In my experience most equine enthusiasts in this country don't fall into the category of animal abusers, but I've seen countless rich b******s who pay someone else to take care of their horse take their horse out and push it way too hard like they didn't give a d**n about it. And it isn't only PETA who cares about the mistreatment of horses.

So yes, as a horse lover, I despise the major horse races.

  3. yeah really!!!! same with barbaro...dude, lots of PEOPLE died in sports, and there arent any haters banning THOSE sports!!!!!! plus, the owners in most cases love their horses, and arent like freaking beating them up...things like this happen only if the horse is pushed too hard or trained wrong or had an off day...and as my trainer says, expect the unexpected, so if a horse shies away from a shadow or slips on a small patch of uneven footing, you have to be ready to stable it!!!!!!

i mean, im all for not abusing your animals, but PETA people should go to a world where animals run things. i bet they would like having monkeys crawling all over them and snakes and dogs and kittens and all that lol

  4. Yes and thanks for posting the question.  Especially sickening were some posts I saw where they're planning on harassing Eight Belles trainer, jockey and owners.

  5. I see where you're coming from but it's still a really sad day. She ran so hard yesterday to see her basically die because she was too exhausted to be able to stride correctly is amazing to think an animal will give you that kind of an effort. I am just agonizing for her like I did with Barbaro. I'm not saying we should put and end to racing. Maybe she should not have been in there with the big boys who knows? And frankly the popular races are so dirty who knows what they injected into her before hand.

  6. Its very unfortunate but thats the 2nd thing that came to mind when I saw her go down.  "Oh NO!  Everybody is going to be all over this again."  Friends of BArbaro were  all over it the second it happened and will never stop until they ban racing.

  7. Oh yes,I am with you for sure. I am very sad about "Eight Belles" and I am upset that people don't understand about racing.Horses love to race and it is what they are bred to do.I wish that these things did not happen, but they do.

  8. I recall that one of the top runners in marathons keeled over and died this year at the boston marathon.   Yet we don't see people trying to ban it.  I am so sad about what happened and I see it as a chance to educate folks who don't know enough about horse racing to ask good questions.

  9. Yes it is unfortunate.  You are correct when you say tragedies happen in all sports
