  1. Our children along with about approximately 3 to 3.5 million children, teens, and young adults, and that is just the numbers we know of, because due to the fact that not all states have registration, or notification requirements the numbers are actually higher.

The numbers also increase when we add those young people who decided that conventional schooling was not for them after age 16, because it did not meet their needs; the schools commonly refer to them as "drop outs".

These young people often times decide to take charge of their own education by home schooling, and attend a community college.

  2. I went to school but I was home educated.

Schools gave me some essentials.  Reading, some grammar, math, numbers, a tad of history and some skills in plastics.

The rest I learned at home on my own before school taught it to me or after school refused to teach it to me.

I got D's in Algebra twice so I was not allowed to take advanced courses like Chemistry and Physics and Statistics and Economics.

I was essentially a study hall major.

Hence I read.  I read books in the library.  I bought my own books.  I'm taking College level Organic Chemistry from a noted professor on line, free of charge.

All my friends who got As in high school got done in by Organic Chemistry.  So far I don't find it all that bad, but I'll admit I haven't yet got a sheet of 30 Benzine rings where I have to put the Cs and H's in on my own.

All of what I do in life came from unschooling at home.

School doesn't really prepare you for life.  That's a misconception.  School prepares you for more school.
