We need an alternative heating source like most people do nowadays. Please, save the sermons on burning fossil fuels.

  1. Years ago we had a pot - belly furnace ( hand fired ) and burned " Nut Coal" and I am in the Coal Region of Northeast Pa.

It was a long burning coal, from my memory, even on those days I forgot to put coal on the fire before leaving for school - so the fire don't go out during the day, I would come home about 3:30 pm and it would be a very very hot ash in the furnace...often I could build a new fire from that rather quickly. It was a slow buring coal and only went out about an hour or two before I walked in the door. which means the last coal was put on that fire was at 6:00 Am ( when my dad got up)

Just thought I'd share that with you...remember though you can't just get what you want if you're talking about Grates - the size of the grate decides what size can pass through.

I don't know if a stove uses a grate system or not....check it out first.

  2. It is the cheapest fuel source and easily available. Clean burning (anthracite coal)

  3. I burn rice coal and chestnut coal they are hard coals and then I mix it with soft coal and I also use wood  I use it because I live in a old house and it would be too expensive to install and oil burner
