Is anyone riding a 150cc scooter moped in California, US. if yes what kind of license do you need and can you go on freeways?

  1. I have a 150cc scooter in California. As the other poster said you need a M1 license.

    Technically a 150 is freeway legal but you would have to be crazy to try it, the top end and acceleration power over about 35 just isn't there. It is good for normal street use though.

    For the freeway I would look at going at least 250. You not only want power but the extra weight will keep the cars from buffeting you around as much.

    I also have a 400 and it is good on the freeway.


  2. No such thing as a 150cc scooter moped. All you need is a M1 license (regular motorcycle license) to ride 150cc scooter on the freeway. I wouldn't recommend it though. You should have atleast a 200cc scooter. I ride a Lambretta that is 200cc's. With the right porting and carb you will be able to go 75mph and feel safe. As I do going to work. You could always buy a motorcycle to free a bit more safe. My motorcycle was less expensive. And over double the cc's. Feel free to email me if you have question's about vintage scooters.
