  1. LOL I like how you phrase that, to whomever his opponent was.

Reminds me of today's headlines that read, "Federer lost!"

instead of the more aproppriate: "soandso won!"

I'm surprised. I think Karlovic was surprised too, he fell on the floor as if he won a grand slam.

  2. no i am used to it now

  3. I was actually not suprised.I mean Mardy freakin Fish beat him, Roddick did, Giles-who?-Simon too..it was just a question of who'd be next..

These are players he previously whipped at every chance.I bet James Blake would be next.(That's if he stops worshipping Federer for just a minute or so).

  4. Well, Playing well and losing is a sign of age catching up with a player or a lack of confidence.

However, This was Karlovic. It doesn't matter how well you play against him. If he serves like 25 aces in 3 sets what chance does anyone have?

Personally I was not suprised. A confident Federer would have gone the same way as Rafa did against Karlovic at Queens and take his chances. Federer didn't do that and seemed to get frustrated-Which against a serve like that is very understandable!!!

  5. Not me ;-)

  6. no im not surprised big ivo  can beat anyone if hes serving well enough.  plus rogers struggling so..

  7. As much as i can't wait for Nadal to get that number 1 spot, i was really surprised that he lost, i knew he wouldn't win Cincinanti, but i didn't expect him to go out so early.

  8. No, not anymore.  His losses have been so frequent lately, it's really not a shocker.  And Karlovic has come close to beating Federer many times in the past, even when Federer was most dominant, so I already had a feeling before the match that Karlovic would be able to win today finally.

  9. Nope, not really...Federer's downfall begun when he lost the Wimby crown so its not surprising at all...

  10. sad, but not surprised. his game is losing its consistency - evident in many of his recent matches -- he seems to be "up & at it" for a few points & then almost slumps, sort of "loses it" ...

he's not been able to convert break points as often either.

and his once straight set wins against even top seeds are almost a thing of the past ; he's struggling against unseeded players & losing !!!

if it's only mono then he should definitely take time off to recuperate fully.

i do wish he comes back with a bang - he's such a pleasure to watch.

however, 6 years is a long reign & every body has to bow out eventually - if wishes were horses .....

finally, though, nadal will get his due - he would've been #1 long time back if it hadn't been for federer ;-/

  11. I am so sad that Federer lost to Karlovic. I started crying! Who did you want to win?

  12. Not really. It seems I'm getting used to it. I wish Federer would get over his confidence bug or whatever it is you want to call it. and dump his coach and get a new full time one fast. I hate seeing his talent go to waste.

  13. no, because he obviously doesn't have his confidence and hes on a losing streak now.  I also think Nadal is a better player than federer now.

  14. not really. I knew Karlovic because of his powerful serves and height (6'10!).

  15. I am but im not, the fact that ivo was only 19 and 6'10 (correct me if im wrong,) but federer has been struggling with his game and hasnt really played like he has in the past. its just different to know federer isnt #1 anymore.

  16. Yeah and I'm pretty sad. I was expecting Federer to win .But now Nadal is the number 1 ,i just hope that Fed make a comeback for the next year

  17. Well...Federer has never been dominant in the master series. He always seems to raise his game for the grand slams though. reaching the semi finals with mono, and then back to back finals only losing to nadal on clay, and then in complete darkness on grass at 7-7 in a 5th set. I won't believe he's finished unless he loses the first round of the us open in straight sets or something.

  18. Not surprised at all,a nd not because of his recent struggles either. More so, of hos opponent. It is never easy playing against Karlovic, more so, due to his size. he possesses a HUGE serve, and on a hard court, even more troubling to attempt to return. Plus he comes into net alot and wins many of those points. Grant it he doesnt move well, but at same time, its quite difficult moving him around if you cant get the ball in play and most often players try to get the ball low, so he has to bend, but cant do it consistently. Fed didnt play badly, its just Karlovic played extremely well. Karlovis will eb a dangerous player at The Open no doubt. Just hope he is not in same draw as Nadal.

  19. Not at all. I knew it will be decided in the tie-breakers with Karlovic being almost unbreakable with that monster serve. With his recent mental slump after being beaten by "tom-d**k-and-harry", I knew Roger could be fragile against the onslaught of Karlovic aces.

I thought Roger will rebound from his Wimbledon loss but that and his bout with mono have taken their toll on him (more so than he believes) and he will have to wait till next year to start another assault at the record books.

  20. when he lost against simon,. well, i am surprised. but since then, i'm not surprised anymore.

  21. That is an interesting question, I'd say Yes and No.  No, because of the way he doesnt seem focused on the game, something else must be going on.  Ginepri should have beat him the way he was playing.  I think Ginepri has stomach problems from letting the match go.

Yes, because this was his to defend.  Not on a huge stage, but important points to hold onto, especially now with Rafa changing his game to fit the hardcourt and bouncing around Federer-like.  I was amazed.

Anyway, I feel sorry for Federer, because something must really be happening that no one knows about, he has the game in his back pocket and can bring it out and use it effectively, but he is human and sometimes just that "human"!

  22. This makes me sound evil but for some reason I always seem to inwardly root against Federer! I don't know why I would want such a nice and classy guy to lose but inside I am really satisfied whenever Federer loses. Maybe because unconsciously I got sick of seeing Federer winning...I don't know.

Edit: You can tell Federer is just not himself by looking at his earlier matches with Karlovic. They were very similar in that there were a lot of tiebreaks, the majority of which Federer won. Those matches were close too, like today's match, but in the end Federer did not play the important points well today, evidenced by the fact he lost both tiebreaks.

  23. No, cause I think I just lost to one of my classmates on SAT score. Someone just pushed me off the mountain and took the peak :-(.

Keeping all personal stuff away, he's (Federer) been losing for a while. His morale probably went dead low this year and it's going to keep him losing.

  24. Sorry I'm just wondering if anyone actually watched this match 2day apart from me.

I was suprised at Karlovic... he was serving from a tree, hammering them down like neevr before. Now we all know the guy can serve but uh this was ridiculous. He was almost unbreakble. Roger played really well in the last 2 sets- hardly any unforced errors, alot of winners, actually won more points than Ivo. If it wasnt this situation everyone would be saying that was an unlucky loss for Rog and who cares really. Ivo cant serve or volley like that all the time. He lost like 1 point on his serve b4 the 3rd set tiebreak.

I was suprised he lost, but he lost for 2 reasons, 1 being ivo (give him some credit c'mon) and 2 being he cracked mentally on the few chances he had (there were about 4 points Federer duffed up).

Its not the end of the world. Roger played alot better than the past 2 games. I just hope he realises that himself.

  25. i'm not surprised, because he's already starting to get older anld he has lost to nadal.

  26. I'm surprised.  It is amazing how Federer went from being so unbeatable to losing to marginal players now.  Clearly, his confidence isn't there right now.  It was once a formality that he would break Sampras' record.  Now, I'm not so sure.

  27. Oh my god! That was terrible! I am such a big fan of fed and i cant believe karlovic closed out the 3rd set tie breaker! Does Roger have a chance at the games or Us Open?

BTW IF HE LOSES THE NUMBER OINE RANKING, will this take pressure off of him and allow him to play better?

  28. Im very surprised. Roger usually handles the big serves like Ivo pretty well.

After has defeat in Toronto i was sure Federer would have his head on straight and start playing great tennis during the cincy tournament. I didnt get to watch the match but Karlovic beating Roger.... Its just WOW! Ivo is only a good server he didnt have anything else to trouble Roger with, no shot making...So i cant wait to watch the match and see what happened. I heard Federer played decent tennis aswell. Oh well....

  29. No.

    He has been losing lately;

    :D

  30. =/ Yeah..

The day after he lost to Nadal... at Wimbledon

Everyone, was saying he was beginning his downfall

and i thought there was no possible way..

but d**n.. if you look at his recent performances..

what other explanation could there be, for such a dominant player to decline so fast..

It just makes you think, is it really true?

    I hope not
