We are starting the adoption process and would really like to have a mentor who has been through this, specifically a couple who has adopted young African American children.

  1. We are adopting a AA boy in 2 weeks. While I will be happy to help out, you might also want to ask your case worker for a mentor...many do this....and that way, you would have someone nearby who would be invaluable.

  2. I think your idea of having a mentor is FANTASTIC!!!  WOO-HOO!  Although you are asking for an adoptive parent to mentor, PLEASE consider an adoptee as a mentor as well.

  3. Hi Scott,

I think it is wonderful that you are looking for a mentor thru the adoption process.  I agree with Torrejon, i think the most knowledgeable people here would be to find an adoptee mentor.  If you have no children, I think adopting a sibling set of children thru foster care would be the best way to go.

I don't know how much help i will be but you can click on my profile and email me anytime.  I might not get back right away with 5 girls.  I do pop in every now and then though.  Best of Luck.

  4. We haven't adopted yet.  Our homestudy has been approved for a year and a half, and we are just waiting for a match.  We are doing foster adoption, and we are open to any race, s*x, and most special needs.  Feel free to email me.
