Is anything being prepared for when the oil runs out?

Sorry i don't know many facts about what will happen when there is no more oil left.

can someone please explain?

I have read a bit on the internet but have come across too may different stories, some have said the oil will never run out and others go as far as saying we will practically be back in the stone ages.

is anything being done to prepare for when this happens like a subsitute?

Can the world live without oil? does the government have any plans?

I mean all the rising energy prices and food prices, what is going on?

Right now the only reason we want oil in the middle east is so that we can hold more world power. Transitioning to alternate energy sources is easy and there is plenty of untapped methods, but for now, America rather be part of the global economy so that we have leverage over other countries.

For the record, it's not that our economy is in terrible shape and we need oil, not even close. Our oil problem is really a "we should have even more power" problem.

But is being power hungry worth starting World War III?

First of all try not to worry, governments, local authorities, industry & us individuals are all trying to do our bit, we can all help very easily just by turning off electric appliances, tv, lights more carefully, this indirectly helps reserve oil.

Use public transport to travel or better still when possible walk, it helps save oil and will be good for you, same as those holidays abroad you need to stop now, they are using up oil & cause enviromental damage, new nucleur power stations are being built to help maintain power supplies, wind farms excist offshore of many countrys now to provide alternative power sources.

Even electric cars & vans can be charged by solar panels for essential services i.e. ambulances, fire trucks, police cars etc will all start to use renewable resources over the next few years, so we will all be able to call upon these essential services.

If we all keep our heads & use the remaining oil supplies in a sensable manner we have no need to worry about the day it doe's eventualy run dry, by then new technologys will have taken over gradually.

Wind power, nuclear power.

Without a massive source of energy, we will not be able to answer your questions, catch the bus, heat our homes, run businesses. We will be done for!!

But the chances are we will nuke each other  or an asteroid will do for us long before the oil runs out, so dont worry!

There are many ways to produce electricity, many ways to power an engine and many things in development. Eventually one will succeed to replace oil. I don't see us going back to the stone age.

Don't know if anything is being done, but we have the technology to be less dependent upon foreign oil, but there is a few more bucks that can be squeezed out of it and don't believe the HYPE that we will never run out of oil.  Mother earth can only take so much.

In about 50-100 years gas will probably run out, but in 50-100 years we will probably use a new kind of car undiscovered right now.
