Is anything falling into the sun? Like how meteors are always hitting Earth? I know the sun has a lot of gravity, but I was wondering if the solar wind keeps junk from getting to the sun.

  1. Comets

  2. yes things like meteors and comets will be pulled in by the strong gravity. someday earth will be pulled in too, when the sun becomes a supergiant

  3. Yes most meteors go into the sun and burn up!

  4. Larger meteorites that are not affected significantly by the solar wind can and do get close to the sun - but the heat of the corona is so great that any object will vaporize before it can actually enter the sun's photosphere (visible "surface").

That vaporized material is likely to be blown away by the solar wind.

  5. nothing really ever falls into the sun, but yes, objects are pulled by it's gravity and virtually all are vaporzied before even getting close to the surface of the sun.

  6. every day comets and other debre fall into the sun. SOHO, the Southern something Heliospheric Observatory, records a lot of these events. I think it sees something like 100 comets a year that fall into the sun. comets are too big to be pushed away by solar wind.

I know dust can't fall into the sun because of solar winds (thats why you see comit tails pointing away from the sun) I'm not sure how big something needs to be for the solar wind to not be able to repel it. it would depend on what it was made of, its trajectory and its speed.
