I'm thinking of applying to five different university's in England and have been wondering whether or not I should stay for the three years. If I get accepted.

  1. I am thinking about attending graduate school in London and that will be for 2 years so I think its worth it.

  2. Try Here. It’s an excellent site with some wonderful options for you. You won't regret opening it. It will definitely help you. Have a look.

  3. Short answer: Yes, it's worth it.

Long answer: If you have the money to live there (ie you won't go into any more debt then the university you would have gone to at home) and you know you like the British university system then do it.  British university classes are run differently then American (or Canadian) university classes.  There isn't much homework and the final exams are all in May or June, so for your first semester classes thats 4-5 months you haven't been in class.  It seems most British students take the 4-6 weeks before finals studying like crazy, but it's still probably less studying then the constant homework/mid-term schedule at North American universities.

Anyway, if you go you'll have a UK visa for 4 years (they grant you a work visa for a year if you go to Uni there).  That's pretty awesome.  You can work in London for that year afterwards when all of your North American friends (assuming you are NA) are still in their senior year.  Maybe try to get citizenship if the company likes you and will sponsor you after your visa expires, that way if you want to go to graduate school in the UK you'll be much, much more likely to get funding (a lot of the graduate funding is only give to EU citizens).

Goodluck, England is a lot of fun!

  4. I am so jealous! 3 years is definitely worth it. If you get there I doubt you would want to leave after a year. I lived in Germany for a year and it really was not long enough. Don't get me wrong, I love the US but there are so many things that you will get to experience living in England that you will probably want more time to take it all in. I have alot of friends lived in Europe and they all say they miss it and wish they could have stayed longer.  And if for some reason you really did hate it couldn't you just go home after a year?
