  1. 'Arable' is the term used to describe the system of farming which uses ploughed fields to grow crops.

  3. Arable farming is cultivation of crops, as opposed to the keeping of animals. Plowing is one form of arable farming, but it is by no means limited to the plow.  In fact no till and minimal tillage agriculture are increasing to the point in arable farming that the plow could possibly become obsolete in the future. Arable land is land that could be used to farm crops.
