  1. Only if you really love it!  Many other fields pay far more & I really don't know any wealthy archeologists... unless they inherited the money.  Find something you love to do & regardless of how difficult it is, "you'll never work a day in your life." However, those that have chosen that life seem to be content with it.

  2. that is soo boring, looking at rocks all day

  3. the only way you will have a decent living as an archaeologist is if you are a professor. if not you are basically a glorified ditch digger. i talked to a conservator at a museum a few years back who told me who knew a number of archaeologists with phds in new york who are now cab drivers because they could never find a job.

  4. An archaeologist with just a B.A. makes between $10 - $20/hr. depending on experience and what region of the country your in(U.S.).  You got love it to do it.  The old joke is "What's the difference between an archaeologist and a large pizza?"  " A large pizza can feed a family of four."

  5. It's an excellent field -- IF and only if that is where your true passion lies. If your heart is in it, run with it and don't look back. Good luck.

  6. Yes, it's okay, you can find some good ruins and some bones of ancient people. You can get a very high paying job if you work as a researcher on ancient civilizations.

  7. Being an Anthropology major, I have met quite a few Archaeologists, and they all say that it is not at all as fun or glamorous as it seems. Dig sites are often very uncomfortable atmospheres; the job is mostly waiting around, preparing, and awaiting permission to conduct research that rarely comes up with anything of interest. My archeology professor freshman year said that the actual job of an archaeologist is rather boring compared to the common conception of it, and it takes years and years of expensive and gruelingly difficult education to become one. Unless you know exactly what you're getting into, you might want to seriously examine your goals and wants. Hope this helped!

PS. The pay is terrible most of the time and the jobs are often few and far between.

  8. Run, while you still can.  Do it as a minor maybe...hit up a field school, it is fun for a while..... but you can only crouch in a ditch, in the sun for so long before it starts to get to you.

  9. Nothing is a good field for a career,

Do the thing you like most and earn your living with that.

If you feel some worries over the choice you made, try to change,

if something small (a question maybe) is trying to get your attention (like: I really wanted to be a farmer, or a policeman)  listen carefully.

You always could do with some advice from a study counselor, they must be somewhere around.
