  1. I'm currently studying this subject in Scotland, probably only to second year though. There has been an increased demand for archaeologists recently due to excavations being performed before major construction projects, particularly in London, which has been a major centre since at least Roman times (around 50AD to 400AD).

As larger and higher buildings are built, their foundations are required to be deeper, leading to at least partial destruction of any potential archaeological sites underneath.

However, to pursue a career in archaeology you would probably require and 1:1 degree and further PhD work.

Overall, the options in America are likely to be limited. Even in places like Britain and Europe where more jobs are available, it is far from the best paid job. Also, due to the nature of funding it is fairly unpredictable whether work will be available.

If you love the subject, go for it, but be prepared to work extremely hard to distinguish yourself in the eyes of potential employers, and be willing to work to acquire funding.

  2. Don't you mean archeology?  I think there is limited work for this field of study but you can check with the career center.
