  1. asbestos  dust  between 5 and 50  microns when inhaled will stick in the lungs and can cause damage. Particles smaller than 5 microns will act as a gas and when inhaled will come back out. Particles larger than 50 microns will not stay suspended in the air long enough to be a problem.

Asbestos is really inert but the particles are sharp and cause small cuts that weaken the lung tissue.

Eating asbestos has not been proven harmful. Lots of water systems used asbestos to add strength to concrete water mains.

  2. yes becouse it contains substances which effect our skin causing skin cancer

  3. Yes, Mesothelioma ( a type of cancer) has occured, im not entirely sure why, but it has something to do with fiber

  4. Asbestos fibers

Asbestos fibers are silicate fibers that can persist for a lifetime in lung tissue following exposure to asbestos. These fibers are extremely small and effect the lungs by damaging tissue and cells forming scar tissue.  These damaged cells in the scar tissue can start replicating out of control to become cancer.

The workplace is a common source of exposure to asbestos fibers, as asbestos was widely used in the past for both thermal and acoustic insulation materials. Today, asbestos use is limited or banned in many countries, including the Unites States. Both lung cancer and mesothelioma (a type of cancer of the pleura or of the lining of the abdominal cavity called the peritoneum) are associated with exposure to asbestos.

Cigarette smoking drastically increases the chance of developing an asbestos-related lung cancer in exposed workers. Asbestos workers who do not smoke have a fivefold greater risk of developing lung cancer than nonsmokers, and those asbestos workers who smoke have a risk that is 50 to 90 times greater than nonsmokers.
