I signed up for a MS Walk and I need to raise money for it. If I ask donations from local businesses, will it be considered solicitation? There are stores that says, "No Solicitation" so is asking for donation for a charity, soliciting? Thanks in advance.

  1. that is what solicitation means

  2. yes.

  3. Usually, when a store says "No soliciting," it means don't harass their customers by asking for donations.

If you're going to ask the store itself, I see no harm in speaking with a manager.  If you're polite, the worst they can say is no.

I'm interested in your walk - please email me with details.

  4. Soliciting is a nice way of saying "asking for donations".

Most public businesses have signs that prohibit soliciting but most "salemen-types" ignore the sign anyway.
