I would call it a netbook.  I think Intel actually coined the term.  Netbooks are small (typically <10 inch), low-cost (<US$500), low-powered laptops that are intended mostly for web surfing and short sessions of office kind of work.  The Eee certainly qualifies as low-cost, small, and low-powered.

the asus eee pc is under the unofficial netbook category because of its small size which means it is much lighter and portable. netbooks really are basically best for web browsing and word processing.
