depending on how you kill them. If you raise them for food its perfectly legal, snakes eat mice and its cheaper to raise your own mice than to buy dead ones from a pet shop

well mice traps are legal. I think the killing of any rodent is legal in the USA, maybe it varies from state to state.

how on earth would you do that? and I guess if you have the supplies you need, i don't see why it wouldn't be ok, as long as you do it in a humane way

Well I've never gotten in trouble for mouse traps set up in my house and they even sale them at the store.

Yes it is legal.  Here is how you do it humanely.  

Put the animal on a hard surface feet down.

Put a pencil across the back of animals neck and hold it in place with your first and middle finger on either side of the neck

Give the tail a yank.  This will separate the spine and the animal will not feel much pain at all.  It takes less than 1-2 seconds for the animal to die, but it may twitch.

If you pull too hard the animal will bleed through the nose or mouth due to internal decapitation.  This works for any rodent.

And for the idiots who did a thumbs down.  Wouldn't you rather see it done humanely?!  This is the method used by people in education, rescue, etc who have to use it.  Personally I would rather share knowledge than have someone try  something that would hurt the animal.  It is humane.  It's quicker than an injection.

Killing an animal however you do it can be considered animal abuse so you have to have a vet do it or get something prescribed by a vet to do it yourself at home. We put our dog down when I was little and we wanted to do it at home in our yard. We had to get some pills from the vet to do it.

It's fine.  People kill mice in their houses all the time with mouse traps.

Even if its not Im sure a good vet would do it anyway for an animal in pain that is going to die anyway. Its not fair to let an animal suffer to death.
