Question:

Is auditioning/ sending a resume for a role that is not your ethnicity/ race acceptable?

Recently there was a casting for a role that I wanted to take up on in acting. However, it called for a caucasian girl, and I am Asian.

Would it be proper etiquette if I sent in my credentials nonetheless?

Thank you.

  1. you could--but you wouldn't get the shot anyway, so it'd be rather worthless...

  2. Nothing improper about it, but don't be surprised if you get turned down.  In many cases, ethnicity doesn't really matter much, but for some roles it is crucial.  I would expect that Asian could do for Caucasian in most circumstances.

  3. I would think that if the director specifically calls for a particular race there's pretty much no point in still trying. I've auditioned, though, for roles that aren't so specific and it's turned out fine...

Best of luck in the future! :)

  4. Unfortunately, NOT.

Say, they already have the parents for the character, and they were caucasion, it wouldnt be right for to caucasions to have a Asian daughter.

    So Sorry!!     :<

I could see if you were Mexican trying to get away with it, even though they are two different races, they look similar to each other, or they could dyr their hair to make them look similar, or wear contacts, with Asian you could do all of that and still not look like your White, so i dont think that you could get awy with it.
