I want to ride my bicycle to the south point of Baja California and was wondering if I had to worry about people trying to kidnap me and steel my stuff. (do I need to worry more so than anywhere else)

  1. Yikes!  I don't know that I would recommend such a thing, and I live here.  Around the border, I definitely think there are dangerous elements and the further away from the border you are (50 miles, maybe?) the safer you are.  Maybe find a way to start in Enseneda and go from there...

My PRIMARY concern would be more one of the elements, proximity to medical treatment, distance between "towns", heat, and most of all the drivers!  There is not a shoulder on the roads to the tip of Baja, so there isn't a designated bicycle lane.  There is barely enough room for two cars going opposite directions and the highway (yes, there is only one of them) is dominated by giant trucks barreling down the highway at ludicrous speeds and with questionable regards for safety.

I would be much more concerned with getting hit by a truck and not being anywhere NEAR any kind of medical center, much less a decent one.

Bring lots and lots of water!

I'm actually curious to see what other people say.  This are just my opinions... I have never biked down here, but I have driven...

    Next!

  2. Actually I would worry more about road conditions and traffic.  Forget about the kidnappings and all that, no one would mess with someone on a bike, unless it's a super cool bike.
