I'm a ballet dancer, and it definitely requires major athleticism. But I say that it's an art, because it is meant to be expressive and creative, not competitive. Those who go to a ballet are the audience, not spectators, and they watch it for the purity of the art form, not to see who wins.

Well, ballet does take plenty of athleticism, but dance is more recognized as an art more than a sport.  In most sports, you win or lose, but since dance is an art, there really isn't a determined winner. It's your opinion (unless you dance competitively).  But overall, it is considered an art form.

My dance teacher is VERY strict and he gets upset if u think of ballet as a sport. He says it's a ART form. So there's ur answer!
