bamboo once established grows very quickly and roots fairly quick so yes it would work very well.  if you do not have neighbors close i would do the running if you do than get clumping.

If you don't want anything else to grow in that area EVER

plant bamboo. It is a 'thug' weed and takes over everything

in its path. There was another answerer stating that its

roots go down 4 feet so it is impossible to get rid of. It will also take over your neighbour's yard too. Think very carefully about planting this because you will never get rid of it.
