  1. Yes.  Everything with a definite chemical formula is a pure substance.  It has the chemical formula BaNa2.

  2. Actually

    no it is not

  3. Absolutely not, a banana contains many different sugars, esters (fruity smelling chemicals), minerals and different substances. If it was pure, it would have a chemical formula, like pure water does (H2O) or pure carbon dioxide (CO2).

    Hope this helps :)

  4. Only if the can it came in is unopened.

It might be a pure substance but it is not an element.

It can be fractionated into chemical coumpounds that can be broken down farther into the chemical elements.

To say something is a pure substance only means it has no contaminants in it.

If your banana had a bit of buldada mixed with it then it would not be pure.

  5. Cute, Pisgahchemist,

Bananas, like most food items, contain maybe hundreds of different chemicals, and are therefore, not pure substances.
